'Capleton and Marcus Garvey', Kingston, Jamaica; 2019.

One of the most recognizable artists in Dancehall and Reggae, also known as 'King Shango' and 'Prophet' has since the late 1980's released over 25 albums and such records as 'That Day Will Come', 'Jah Jah City' and 'Rock Stone'. Central to much of his work are messages of Rastafari and consciousness, delivered with his unique deep voice and energetic style.

This image is from my long-term project on Dancehall made on a day spent with Capleton beginning at his home in Kingston, Jamaica and following him to a couple of video sets. Along the way we noticed this mural of the Honorable Marcus Garvey, the Jamaican-born civil rights leader and activist whose teachings of Black empowerment and support of the 'Back to Africa' movement are important pillars of Rastafari philosophy.
