Storm Dave hits Sweden – SJ cancels trains amid strong winds

Heavy winds from Storm Dave are causing major disruptions across Sweden, with SJ cancelling several train services and Trafikverket working to clear trees and other hazards from tracks.

SMHI has issued orange‑level wind warnings for parts of western and central Sweden, including Gothenburg and surrounding areas, urging people to take the situation seriously and avoid unnecessary travel.

What’s affected?

SJ has cancelled or heavily delayed trains on key routes such as Nässjö–Landeryd, Nässjö–Vetland Trollhättan, and Kalmar–Linköping, with some restrictions expected to continue at least through early this week.

Ferries and other public transport are also being adjusted, so passengers should check SJ’s website or app and local transport operators before heading out.

Safety tips

Avoid walking or driving under trees and in exposed, windswept areas.

If you have loose objects outdoors (garden furniture, bikes, etc.), bring them inside to prevent flying debris.

In case of power cuts or blocked roads, follow updates from SMHI, Krisinformation.se and local authorities.

Discover Skansen – Swedish culture and Nordic wildlife in one place

Skansen is Sweden’s – and the world’s – oldest open-air museum, founded in 1891. Located in the heart of Stockholm, it is one of Sweden’s most popular visitor destinations and has been loved by generations.

Here, Nordic wildlife, Swedish culture and beautiful park landscapes come together in one unique experience.

Visitors can explore historic houses and environments from across Sweden and discover how people lived and worked through the centuries. The park is home to Nordic wild animals including moose, bears, lynx and seals, as well as traditional Swedish farm breeds.

Experience the best of Sweden at Skansen:

• Explore historic environments – Walk through authentic houses and farms from different regions of Sweden and learn how people lived and worked through the centuries.

• Enjoy parks and gardens – Relax and stroll through beautiful green spaces in the heart of Stockholm.

• Discover Nordic wildlife and learn about the animals – Everyday you can meet
knowledgeable zookeepers who share fascinating facts about the animals. A perfect
experience for families.

• Swedish celebrations throughout the year – Skansen brings Swedish traditions to life,
including the iconic Midsummer celebrations with music and dancing around the maypole,
and the historic Christmas Market, held since 1903, featuring festive treats, handicrafts and seasonal traditions in a historic setting.

For over 130 years, Skansen has been a place where Swedish holidays, culture and nature are experienced together — a destination to explore at your own pace, where history, traditions and Nordic wildlife meet.

A short walk from the Vasa Museum is Beckholmen, a neighbour island to Djurgården. On the island there is a large dry dock, the GV dock, named after the Swedish king Gustav V.

The GV dock was built in the 1920s for the Swedish Navy’s cruisers and coastal defence ships. In 1961, a particular ship was allowed to use the dock – the warship Vasa.

On May 4, she was towed into the dock, floating on her own keel, after she had been salvaged. Vasa remained in the dock for five months, while excavation work was carried out on board.
