Monday March 30th, 2026

We are almost at the end of our 2026 whale watch season and there are still humpbacks in our bay. Our first observation today was a juvenille who for more than 20 minutes of our 30 mins observation was logging on the surface, exhaling every 2 mins. We know that this young whale has been in our bay for past 4 days doing exactly the same behavoir! And shortly after this observation, we found another new baby for the 2026 whale watch season, mother calf pair number thirty-six, yeeeey!! The calf was diving for more than 5 minutes...

Sunday March 29th, 2026

It's always nice to see already documented mother calf pair again in our bay. Some mothers are very loyal and stay longer in our bay with us and some we don't see more after first sighting. Our mother calf pair no 21 are very special to us. The little calf has been here with us for more than 20 days now.

From the port of Samana we could see some activity happening behind our monumental bridge, so we headed there directly. There were some whales in the area but we stayed with a new mother calf pair and their es**rt. Baby number 35 for our 2026 whale watch season! A little calf has a white chin a was surfacing every 2 minutes with it's mom. And on the way to Samana we observed a large group of dolphins, there have been 20+ individuals in this group.

Friday March 27th, 2026

Today we found another new baby for our 2026 whale watch season here in Samana bay, mother calf pair no 34. They were just slowly swimming around us or staying stationary and the calf was diving for 3 minutes. Then we moved to a single whale who was travelling south and took us to shallow parts of our bay. Very quickly we found out that the whale is a known male from Gulf of Maine and also our "whale friend" Copycat who comes to Samana bay every year now.

Wednesday March 25th, 2026

The longest residency here in our bay have mothers and their calfs, today we observed our mother calf pair number 21 and their male es**rt who has been with them for past 5 days and the female looks quite happy with him. They flippered together, they even breached together, twice! And the baby is the one with chopped tip or her tail. And before these three we found a single male. There are still humpbacks in Samana bay.

Saturday March 21st, 2026

Slightly up in our bay, more to the east, we found a group of 3, a female and her es**rt and a challenger. Our female was taking "her males" up and down the bay and by the end other 2 humpbacks entered this group. What a surprise to found out later by revising the photos that both males are our very special whales for Whale Samana company.
