I recently had the chance to spend some time exploring Grenada, and I came home with so many great memories of this beautiful island. While the beaches are certainly incredible, there is so much more to Grenada than just the coastline. Here are a few of the experiences that stood out to me during my time there.
The Food!
One of the things I really loved about Grenada was the food. Everything felt so fresh and full of flavour, and I loved getting to try the local dishes and experience a little more of the island through its food. You definately need to get off of the resort and try the local restaurants.
Belmont Estate
I really enjoyed my visit here. Walking around the estate and learning about Grenada’s cocoa production gave me a completely different perspective on the island. And of course, getting to taste the chocolate was a pretty nice bonus!
The River Antoine Rum Distillery
Visiting River Antoine was such a unique experience. It’s a real step back in time, it was started in 1785! I loved seeing how traditional methods are still used to make their rum. Definitely one of those places that gives you a feel for Grenada’s history and culture.
Flying to Carriacou...WOW!
The flight over to Carriacou was an experience in itself. It's only a short flight from the mainland of Grenada. The views of the islands and turquoise water from above were incredible. The people were warm and welcoming and also resilient as they are still recovering from hurricane Beryl. There is so much to see around the island, boating, diving, sea turtles & exploring!
My time in Grenada gave me a chance to see a side of the island that you simply don’t get from a resort. From the food and local culture to the history, people and beautiful little islands just beyond the coast, there is so much to discover. I left with a much better understanding of Grenada and definitely a desire to go back!
