"Last Sunday’s hike was extra special – we explored the historic and natural Francés Urco route, which played a key role as a landmark for the French Geodesic Mission’s measurements of the Earth! 🥾🌍 We walked along the ridge of mountain, surrounded by vibrant native plants, and were rewarded with incredible views of the Tarqui Valley and its lush green cattle pastures.🌿✨

Epic trek along the ridge of Cerro Guagualzhumi! 🥾🌿

What a day! Last weekend we hiked along the ridge of this cañari sacred mountain and the views were simply breathtaking – got to see both Cuenca and Azogues spread out below us, with the stunning Andean terrain in between.

So many incredible native species along the way, from vibrant wildflowers to unique high-altitude vegetation. Every turn brought a new sight to admire!

Ancestral Hikes: Cerro Guagualzhumi

According to the Andean cultures, the hills are recognized as "APUS", gods whose souls live in the mountains.
We invite you to a hike to the Guagualzhumi hill, which gives us a spectacular view of the large valley of Cuenca - Azogues and which functioned as a ceremonial sanctuary and astronomical observatory of the ancient Cañaris.

CHOBSHI ANCESTRAL HIKE

Explore the rich cultural and natural heritage of the ancient Cañaris, the original inhabitants of the territory that now comprises the provinces of Azuay and Cañar.
From Cuenca, we drive towards the eastern area of the Azuay province, to the Chobshi community, Sigsig, where we will hike through ancient trails, ruins, and natural formations, where we can appreciate the presence of pre-Hispanic cultures. Before back to Cuenca, we will visit the Guitar workshops in “Ruta de las guitarras”, San Bartolome.
