The Polylepis Hiking Route takes you deep into one of the most unique and fragile ecosystems of the Andes, El Cajas National Park. This trail winds through ancient Polylepis forests, also known as “paperbark trees,” whose twisted trunks and peeling reddish bark create a magical, almost otherworldly atmosphere.

As you walk, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of high-altitude lakes, rugged mountain peaks, and the rich biodiversity of El Cajas National Park. The Polylepis groves provide shelter to a variety of birds, including the giant hummingbird and the endemic violet-throated metaltail.

Curiquingue Hiking and Boat Trip

For this weekend, we have prepared a wonderful hike to the highlands of Nabon, located in southern Azuay Province, 1 hour from Cuenca.

This hike will allow us to admire the imposing Andean moorland and the importance of preserving this fragile ecosystem.

Join us for a hike and a boat ride through Curiquingue Lake and its waterfalls, where community tourism ventures have been created.
