5 Days in the Galápagos — What the experience actually feels like
Day 1: Arrival and first views of the islands. The ocean already feels different here.
Day 2: Snorkeling with sea lions and tropical fish in crystal-clear water.
Day 3: Giant tortoises moving slowly through the highlands — pure silence and nature.
Day 4: Island hopping, hidden beaches, and wildlife everywhere you look.
Day 5: Sunset departure… and that feeling of not wanting to leave.
The Galápagos Islands is not just a destination — it’s a completely different world.
If you ever want ideas on how to organize a smooth trip between islands, I’m happy to help.

With its golden-yellow scales and robust limbs, the Galápagos land iguana (Conolophus subcristatus) looks like a small dragon forged by volcanic fire. Endemic to the islands, this species is one of the most iconic reptiles of the archipelago.

These herbivores are most often seen feeding on the prickly pear cactus (Opuntia), which provides them not only food but hydration in the arid environments they inhabit. Despite their rough appearance, they are shy creatures that rely on the warmth of the sun and the shelter of lava rocks.

Today, land iguanas face threats from invasive species and habitat loss. Thanks to ongoing conservation efforts by the Galápagos National Park and research foundations, their populations have been gradually recovering—especially in areas like North Seymour and South Plaza.

They are living fossils—reminders of how nature evolves in isolation.

The Phoenicopterus ruber, known as the American flamingo, inhabits the coastal lagoons of islands like Floreana, Isabela, Santiago, and Santa Cruz. Despite its vibrant beauty and graceful presence, it is one of the most vulnerable bird species in the archipelago.

Its intense pink color comes from a diet rich in carotenoids, found in tiny crustaceans and algae that it filters with its distinctive curved beak. It’s common to see them wading slowly with their heads submerged, feeding in silence.

It is estimated that fewer than 500 flamingos live across the Galápagos, making each sighting a rare and privileged experience. Their presence is a sign of healthy aquatic ecosystems and a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting these unique habitats.

Galápagos is not just biodiversity — it’s balance and fragility in its purest form.
