Nature With Nick - Mindo, Ecuador

Nature With Nick - Mindo, Ecuador Hello! I am passionate about nature, especially nocturnal animals. Check out my "About" section :)~ Hello, my name is Nick Molnar. Have a look at my original page!

I am the owner of Mindo Night Walks. Mindo Night Walks is the original night walk in Mindo, Ecuador since 2014. There are a lot of reviews and photos of animals I have seen over the years conducting night walks. Find the page here. https://www.facebook.com/mindonightwalks

Nature with Nick is an idea I came up with for people who would like private or longer walks or hikes in the Mindo, Ecuador ar

ea. I will always be the guide when booking a tour with Nature with Nick, whereas at Mindo Night Walks I am often the guide, but as it has grown so much, I also have other guides who are now helping out. For pricing and information, please send me a message! I can offer different locations depending on whether or not you are searching for specific species of animals, or want to see different elevation levels of the beautiful Cloud Forest here in Mindo. Costs depend on how many people will join, the duration of the walk / hike you would like, and the location and costs associated with it. Thanks for checking out my pages! Nick Molnar.

It's the drier season (it's never dry) here in Mindo and some of the frogs are still out mingling doing their thing!

I had shut down due to an injury in January, and because I was moving locations, but I have exciting news!

I will now be doing night walks in primary untouched forest much deeper in the Mindo area, all I need to do is finish making a couple trails and creating a small frog pond to help grow the population of frogs in the area.

Please feel free to message me on Whatsapp or send an email and I'll be glad to set you up for a tour. Ask for details!

Hello everyone! It's been a while. Unfortunately I had an accident in the Amazon Rainforest a few months ago and I am still recovering from that. Due to the accident I have not been doing night walks for the last few months.

I expect to be fully healed soon and look forward to taking on clients again. I will never let this dream of educating people about the nocturnal wildlife here in the Cloud Forests of Ecuador die. It's been going on 8 years now and I am so grateful for the opportunity to bring you along with me and share my passion.

I thought I would upload this picture I took some time back and check your knowledge;

What is happening here?

This frog seems to be judging me by giving the "side eye" as I photographed him. This is a Neotropical Palm Treefrog (Hypsiboas pellucens). Somewhat common if you know what you are looking for, and also doesn't seem to mind living in disturbed areas inhabited by humans in addition to being found in the forests.

This guest had zero fear during the night walk. Good! Because there is really no reason to be afraid, especially if I am guiding you and telling you what is dangerous (rare) or not (most common).

I've started using this thermal camera to help me see warm blooded animals at night during the night walks. Works pretty well! I havent recorded anything on it until now as I have been simply using it as a visual aid for finding things such as kinkajous, opossums, bats, etc.

I used to watch for any movement in the trees and use high zoom flashlights to try to spot nocturnal mammals in the distance, but of course if you see them, they certainly have seen you too by that point. .

With this thermal camera, I can see a small animal such as a bat at up to about 100 meters of distance, and a larger animal like the one in my profile picture (kinkajou) at about up to 200 meters away. If the animal hasn't spotted me by then, I'll use a red colored flashlight to lead me closer to the animal in hopes of seeing it without the need to lure them with food.

This video was just for fun later last night after my tour, taking my dog to the river for a walk.

Thanks for warching!
Nick Molnar.

Hey everyone, just checking in here. I have been told that yet another blooger has been on the Mindo Night Walk tour, and added a link to my page! I love it when that happens, and I don't even know about it.

I've been looking over their blogs and they sure do travel a LOT! It's definitely worth a read. Here's a link to the Mindo, Ecuador part of their blog.

High up in the cloud forests is the tiny town of Mindo. Home to butterflies, rare birds, waterfalls and adventure sports, is the perfect antidote to a big city life. In this guide you’ll find the best things to do in Mindo, where to eat, where to stay and how to get there.

Hey everyone, check out this beauty! I have to admit that frogs are probably my favorite type of animal (competing with arboreal vipers), and here is one of the species of glassfrogs that we rarely see. I was so excited to find this beautiful specimen and get some photos of it. This is a red spotted glassfrog. Nymphargus grandisonae is the scientific name. They are found here in the Andes mountains of Ecuador and Colombia.

Glassfrogs are arboreal (tree dwelling) amphibians that typically hang around streams during the rainy season, depositing their eggs on leaves overhanging the water. The male guards the eggs and protects them from predators.

Did you know that many amphibians guard their eggs? Did you know that it's the males (of most species) that do all the work?
Can anyone give me any cool facts about amphibians?
