Are you interested in places less traveled and unspoiled by tourist hordes? Places such as unbelievable ghost towns, gorgeous colonial cities, magnificent pre-Hispanic sites and wonders of nature – beautiful Marquesque highlands that most people miss when they travel on their own? We stay in hotels on old colonial squares full of character that are anything but faceless corporate bore. We will be

sampling most delicious Mexican food in the restaurants overlooked by Lonely Planet & Rough Guide. We’ll see and explore cites and places that Mexicans love and come to visit but are neglected by foreign crowds. Finally, Zhe will talk so much Mexican history that you’ll be able to pass Masters’ exams in Latin American affairs. Early Summer Central Highlands Adventure's itinerary includes:

· Four marvelous colonial towns, including Guanajuato and Queretaro, full of color, charm, and unbelievable wealth of history.

· Three most important, imposingly beautiful, and impressive pre-Hispanic (and pre-Aztec, for that matter) sites.

· Rural decay of an out-of-the-way ghost town and abandoned mines! Shaft explorations, a visit to an Indian sweat-lodge (Temazcal), and adobe mansions. Our best kept Mexican secret :)

· Mexico City: Centro Historico and its Zocallo, Rivera’s murals, mariachi, pulce and tequila at craziest of all Plaza Garibaldi, Balderas Markets, hip Art Deco borough of Condesa.

· Colonial Coyoacan with Frida Museum (optional).

· Comandante's very own tour-de-force across D.F.'s "real Mexico".

· A 350m high monolithic volcanic rock formation – third tallest of its kind in the world, which we will hike to the breathtaking vista points in the little charmer town of Bernal at the footsteps of Sierra Gorda. Transportation, Amenities and Practicalities:

The price of the tour is $165 a night per person ($1485 for 9 nights) and includes accommodations (mostly, in amazing colonial buildings! double occupancy), wonderful food (NOTHING like American TexMex!!), transportation (we travel by private air-conditioned bus), museum and sites admissions, and all walking tours/guide services. This does not include tequila shots (well, any hard alcohol), personal items such as souvenirs, and airfare - though, we can help you to search for the airline tickets. The size of the group is around up to 11 people. Please note that we always allocate space on our tours on a first come - first served basis.

Central Mexican Highlands Adventure!

The dates: July 21 - July 30*
Price: $2090 per person, includes in Mexico all lodging, all meals, ground transportations, admissions and tickets, and guiding services. Does not include alcohol, airfares, insurance, and personal itesm such as souvenirs.

This is indeed our most beloved itinerray and those are indeed my most favorite lands 🙂 I plan to run this trip "as is", the way we used to run it in the 2010s, with, possibly, one amazing "secret" addition 😉

Hidden Gems of Mexico!! XILITLA and Sierra Gorda. Jan 5 - Jan 13. Back in a day when we were just starting, I used to announce trips like 3-4 weeks in advance. Things long changed but now that we are perhaps closer to sunset than sunrise of our business, I am somewhat back to this approach with this particular Adventure :)
We are going back to those remote lands start of January, one last time perhaps - just in six short weeks!
This, imo, is truly one-of-a-kind off-the-beaten-path trip that includes not only mysterious and mind-blowing Las Pozas de Edward James, famous Pena de Bernal, and Otomi-inspired Uneco WH churches but also such hidden gems as Mision Bucareli and Canyon Paraiso that no tourist brochures ever mentions.

Travel with us Jan 5 to Jan 13 to a Pueblo Magico of Xilitla in a remote Huasteca valley to see, walk, explore and marvel at amazingly unique Las Pozas de Edward James.

Las Pozas is crazy magnificent surrealists "stone" garden in a rain-forest settings built by equally crazy brilliant British aristocrat. A son of American millionaire and a godson of King of England, longtime patron of likes of Dali and Magritte, a person who bankrolled Balanchine, and, once upon a time, owned a largest surrealist art collection in the world, James has struggled for decades to establish himself as an artist/poet in his own right, always dismissed as yet another rich eccentric with aspirations but not a talent. Eventually, he ended up in Mexican jungle away - at least for a while - from friends, enemies and critics alike - and there he built his Las Pozas.

If James's goal was to make an artistic statement, he made one magnificently. When I was coming to Xilitla for the first time, I expected to find concrete constructions in a jungle setting to be intriguing but ugly. Wrong I was. Las Pozas is both unique, intriguing and mind-blown beautiful. Interestingly enough, as heavy and bold the materials used were, fragile, nuanced and light all his crazy constructions appear.
