Where to stay in Ecuador's Amazon rainforest? 🌿

There are dozens of lodges across the region, so narrowing it down can feel overwhelming. With 14 years of experience selling Amazon tours, we match each traveler to the lodge that fits their travel style and budget.

Here are 4 of our clients' all-time favorites.

🟢 SANI LODGE, YASUNÍ
Sani Lodge is entirely owned and operated by the indigenous Kichwa community of Sani Isla. The lodge itself sits at a quiet lagoon and the community’s land spans over 31,178 hectares of protected rainforest.
🏷2027 rates start at $1,077 per person for 3 nights

🟢 SACHA LODGE, YASUNÍ
Sacha Lodge offers a wonderful blend of luxury and innovation, so it’s no wonder it was recently featured in National Geographic's "Pole to Pole with Will Smith." Among its unique experiences are a 275-meter treetop walkway and a rotating canopy crane, lifting guests 45 meters above the forest.
🏷 2027 rates start at $2,050 per person for 3 nights

🟢 NICKY AMAZON LODGE, CUYABENO
Nicky Amazon Lodge lies close to the beautiful Laguna Grande within Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. The lodge proves that a great jungle stay doesn't need a luxury price tag.
🏷 2026 rates start at $355 per person for 3 nights

🟢 TAMANDÚA ECOLODGE, PUYO
Hidden inside a private reserve 30 minutes from Puyo and reachable only on foot, Tamandúa Ecolodge is a true off-grid stay. It operates as an extension of the Yanacocha Wildlife Rescue Center, with proceeds supporting the rehabilitation of rescued animals.
🏷 2026 rates start at $110 per person for 1 night

Where to travel in Ecuador's Amazon rainforest? 🌿
There are two very different sides: deep jungle and transition zones. Here's how to choose.

🟢 Deep jungle 🌳
This option takes you far into the rainforest, away from any road or town. From Quito, it's a 40-minute flight or 10-hour bus ride to the tour's starting point (Coca for Yasuní, Lago Agrio for Cuyabeno), followed by about 3 more hours (mainly by motor canoe) to reach your lodge.

Because of the long travel time, plan at least 3 nights, though some lodges offer 2-night tours. Most of our clients stay 4 nights: the longer you stay, the more you'll see.

Deep jungle tours mean a more immersive experience: primary forest means far more wildlife, completely undisturbed.

Explore Ecuador's deep jungle in:
- Yasuní National Park and Biosphere Reserve
- Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve
- Kapawi Lodge and Reserve (reached via Shell)

🟢 Transition zones 🏞
We call the border areas between the Andean Highlands and the deep jungle "transition zones." Perfect if you're short on time or don't want to travel far into the jungle, but still want a taste of it.

Transition zones sit at moderate elevations, between 300 and 1,000 meters, higher than the lowland jungle but below the Andean peaks. That's what makes them ideal for waterfalls and white-water rafting.

Thanks to their closeness to the Andes, you can reach them by car or add them to an Andean circuit. Most clients stay 1-2 nights here, but day tours or short stops work too.

Wild animals are harder to spot this close to roads and towns, though there are animal rescue stations worth visiting and supporting, and Puerto Misahuallí is known for the cheeky capuchin monkeys that roam freely through its beach and square.

Explore Ecuador's transition zones in:
- Archidona (3.5 hrs from Quito)
- Puerto Misahuallí (4 hrs from Quito)
- Tena (4 hrs from Quito, 3 hrs from Baños)
- Puyo (90 min from Baños, 5 hrs from Quito)
- Macas (5 hrs from Cuenca)

Did you ever wish you could fit more into one trip instead of picking just one destination? 🤔

With Ecuador, you don't have to choose. 🇪🇨 One country, four destinations:
1️⃣ Amazon Rainforest 🐒
2️⃣ Andean Highlands 🏔
3️⃣ Pacific Coast 🦐
4️⃣ Galapagos Islands 🐢

All easily reachable without ever leaving Ecuadorian soil.

Over the next four reels, we're taking you to each one of them.
First stop: the Amazon Rainforest.

A 40-minute flight from Quito drops you straight into the jungle, where one of the most biodiverse destinations on the planet is waiting for you.
Marvel at colorful toucans, listen to howler monkeys’ roars, search for well-camouflaged amphibians, look out for prehistoric-looking hoatzins, watch squirrel monkeys jump from tree to tree and black caimans lurk for prey.
Every bend in the creek or trail hides something new. 🌿🌟
