Compensating our regional footprint brings us to Machu Picchu and the surrounding Andean landscapes of the Urubamba River Valley.

Alongside Regenera and two guardian communities, together with 10 allied organizations, we support conservation efforts in an area under increasing pressure. Andean forests are degrading, wetlands under stress. The spectacled bear, the neotropical otter, and the booted racket-tail live here.

Machu Picchu carries enormous ecological and cultural importance for the region. Our long-term commitment as a carbon neutral organization continues through restoration and protection initiatives in this landscape.

Floreana, the world’s first “smart island”.

New monitoring systems now operating in the island are helping conservation teams understand wildlife activity in real time through AI-powered camera traps, smart sensors, wildlife trackers, and live ecosystem data.

In places as sensitive as the Galápagos, timing matters. Earlier detection can change how species are protected, how ecosystems are restored, and how conservation teams respond in remote terrain.

Technology alone will never protect the islands. Long-term conservation still depends on the people and organizations working there every day. Projects like this simply give them better tools to do it.

The initiative is led by Island Conservation together with Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco , supported by the German Development Bank and Fundación CoMoN through the Charles Darwin Foundation.

Few places push conservation to evolve the way Galápagos does.

Some communities stay small in the best possible way, even after 10 years.

Time in Boquete with the Remoters reminded us why Remote Latin America continues to feel so personal. A gathering shaped by conversation, familiarity, and people who genuinely enjoy sharing space together.

Receiving the Remote Pioneers recognition this year carried special meaning for our team. Tropic has been there since the early years, growing alongside a community that continues to move through this industry with warmth and a strong Latin spirit.

Happy 10 years, Remote!

In San Pablo del Lago, near Otavalo in the Ecuadorian Andes, murals live on the walls of everyday homes.

They take shape through the connection between artists and local families, reflecting daily life - traditional clothing, woven details, native fauna - all present in the scenes that surround them.

A quiet expression of place.

Our Galápagos Guardians are shaped by years spent learning one of the most protected ecosystems on the planet, day after day.

They are often the first people our travelers meet on the islands. The ones who notice when sea lions grow restless, where marine iguanas gather at dawn, and how to move through this place without leaving a trace.

That is what defines the Tropic Guardians program: people who know the place deeply and guide others through it with care.

Behind the Seasons: Winter in Chilean Patagonia
Snow settles over the granite peaks of Torres del Paine, the trails grow quiet, and the park takes on a quieter, more introspective character.

Wildlife follows its own patterns this time of year. Guanacos gather in large herds across the lower valleys. With fewer people around, pumas move more freely through the open steppe.

Grey Glacier is always there. In winter, it feels even more still. Light shifts, sound carries further.

From June to August, Patagonia is pared back to its essentials. For those who know what they are looking for, it offers something the busy season rarely does.

A pause with the Ecuador team! Time to reconnect, share space, and recognize the people who have carried the first months of the year. Jascivan and Cristina joined to celebrate our top performers, in a setting that felt open and easy.

Shared activities, conversations, and a long lunch.

Our moment to switch to “modo avión” — and fully disconnect for a while.

Back from a few days in Buenos Aires.

Emotions brought together familiar faces and conversations that felt easy to pick up, shaped by years of working across the region, with Jascivan Carvalho representing Tropic throughout those exchanges.

There’s a growing clarity in how travel is evolving. More attention on how experiences are created, and the role sustainability continues to play in that process.

A strong start to the months ahead.

Deep in Chilean Patagonia, Río Palena Lodge is a destination in itself.

Francisca from our Chile team just came back and her words say it best. She felt so at home she could picture herself heading downstairs in slippers to grab a coffee by the river. And then, completely out of nowhere, found herself rafting the Futaleufú, one of the most legendary whitewater rivers in the world, laughing like a kid.

Adventure and stillness in equal measure. A lodge where sustainability runs through everything, caring for the land, celebrating local culture and supporting the communities around it. The kind of place Tropic is proud to recommend.

For the Quechua people, Pachamama was never a metaphor. For the Mapuche, the land has always been alive, something to be cared for, not consumed. These relationships between people and territory have shaped South America for centuries.

Today, on Earth Day, we think about what it means to keep that relationship intact. Tourism, when done with intention, can be one of the tools: reading the Andes with guides who know every ecological level, walking the Amazon alongside communities who have protected it for generations, or crossing the Galapagos with the awareness that every step matters.

The Earth doesn't need our admiration. It needs our commitment.

When the work happens quietly, recognition tends to follow.

Last week, our CEO Jascivan Carvalho represented Tropic in a conversation on what it really takes to bring sustainability into daily operations. It was a grounded exchange. One that reflected years of work behind the scenes, especially the effort led by the team driving our certification process and carbon neutral journey, which made this moment possible.

It’s encouraging to see that what we’re building is being recognized beyond our own work. Our thanks to Esvin Chacón and the Preferred by Nature team for the space. We look forward to more conversations like this, where the industry, students, and sustainability leaders come together.
