Costa Rica has a rhythm most people never slow down enough to notice. Cloud forest mornings in Monteverde, volcano sunrises over Arenal, and 4x4 roads that reach places the paved ones never will.

The Galápagos gets most of the attention, but mainland Ecuador is where a lot of the culture actually lives. The Amazon rainforest, Andean markets, and a colonial capital at nearly 3000 meters are all reachable on the same trip.

Here are the questions we get most about adding the mainland: https://rebeccaadventuretravel.com/faqs/ecuador-travel-questions/

A lot of what people assume about visiting the Galápagos turns out to be outdated, usually based on the cruise only version most have seen online. Land based options exist, the water isn't always cold, and you don't need to be a certified diver to have the wildlife encounters everyone talks about.

Here's what it's actually like: https://rebeccaadventuretravel.com/

Before almost every Galápagos trip we plan, we get the same handful of questions.
Do you need to be a strong swimmer? Is a cruise worth it over island hopping? Is it safe to bring the kids? We put together honest answers based on the trips we've actually run, not the brochure version.

Ecuador is often treated as just the gateway to the Galápagos, but the mainland holds its own.
Quito sits close to 2,850 meters, so a slow first day helps. The Amazon region feels like an entirely different country, humid and full of wildlife you won't see anywhere else in Ecuador. And because the country is so compact, the highlands, capital, and rainforest can all fit into one trip comfortably.

Planning a trip to Machu Picchu?
A few things worth knowing before you book: Cusco sits at 3,400 meters, higher than most people expect, so a couple of easy days there or in the lower Sacred Valley makes a real difference. Entry to the citadel now runs on fixed time slots, and tickets for high season sell out months in advance.

Cruise or island hopping in the Galápagos?
The honest answer is it depends on what you want. A cruise reaches remote sites like Genovesa or Española that you simply cannot get to any other way. Island hopping keeps you in hotels with day trips out, which tends to suit families or anyone who prefers more flexibility and solid ground at night.

Luxury in the Galápagos isn't about indulgence. It's about depth.

Small ships that reach protected sites before the crowds. Expert naturalist guides who have spent careers studying these islands. Access to restricted conservation zones that most tours never enter. And after a full day of hiking and snorkeling, somewhere genuinely comfortable to return to.

These are five reasons why going luxury changes the quality of the Galápagos experience entirely.

Packing for the Galápagos doesn't need to be complicated.
A few things worth prioritizing: closed water shoes for wet landings on lava rock, a rash guard for long snorkeling days, a drybag for the boat transfers between islands, and a light layer for the highlands, which run cooler than the coast.

First time planning a Galápagos trip?

A few things nobody tells you upfront: you'll need a Transit Control Card before you even board your flight, cash still matters more than card machines outside Puerto Ayora, and only reef safe sunscreen is allowed in the marine reserve. Small details, but they're the ones that make the trip run smoothly.
