🧡✨ INTI RAYMI: The Festival of the Sun in Ecuador ✨🧡

When the sun reaches its highest point and the Andes glow in golden light, a sacred ritual is reborn: Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun 🌞

Rooted in the Inca tradition and still alive in the hearts of indigenous communities like Otavalo, Salasaca, Cayambe, and Saraguro — this ancestral ceremony honors Inti, the Sun God, and gives thanks to Pachamama, Mother Earth, for the gift of life and harvest 🌽🌺

🌀 Ritual dances
🛁 Purifying baths
🔥 Sacred offerings of flowers, corn, chicha
🍽️ Cuy served with mote, peanut sauce & aji — not just food, but ancestral medicine and a symbol of abundance

More than a celebration, it’s a spiritual journey: ✨ See vibrant traditional garments
🎶 Hear Kichwa chants echoing in the mountains
🌿 Smell incense and roasted flavors
🖐 Feel the Earth while dancing in gratitude
🍲 Taste ancestral flavors made with love

📅 Join the celebration every June 21
📍 Only in Ecuador — where the sun guides the spirit and the past still speaks ✨

In the heart of Quito, Ecuador 🇪🇨, rises a neo-Gothic gem that seems straight out of a medieval tale 🏰: the Basilica of the National Vow. With its towers reaching 115 meters in height ⛪, it is the largest cathedral on the American continent 🌎 and, according to legend, it remains unfinished… because once it is completed, the end of the world will come 🌌 Myth or prophecy?

More than just a church, it’s a symbolic journey through Ecuador’s four regions 🌿🐢🌋🌧️: its gargoyles are not demons, but Amazonian caimans, Galápagos tortoises, and howler monkeys carved in stone 🐒. Every stained-glass window and every gold leaf ✨ whispers history, art, and mysticism. Are you ready to discover it? 🔍

🐬 Did you know there are dolphins in the Galápagos?
And not just one species… but five!

Two of them — the bottlenose dolphin and the common dolphin — are year-round residents of these enchanted islands.
The other three — the spinner, rough-toothed, and pantropical spotted dolphins — are seasonal visitors, arriving during their migratory journeys.
✨ The bottlenose dolphin is a fan favorite!
You'll find them from July to November, especially around Bartolomé and Española Islands, where the waters are cooler.
They’re incredibly social, often swimming alongside boats — and sometimes even putting on a playful show for tourists!
If you’re out on a tour, keep an eye on the waves…
You might spot a pod gliding beside you, just as curious about you as you are about them.

Cuy: A Living Tradition of the Ecuadorian Andes

In the highlands of Ecuador, cuy (guinea pig) is more than just a dish — it’s a symbol of heritage, celebration, and ancestral identity.
Raised in rural homes for generations, this small animal has been a nutritious part of the Andean diet since pre-Inca times. Today, it’s one of the most iconic dishes of Ecuadorian cuisine.

It’s typically roasted over charcoal, crispy on the outside and tender inside, served with potatoes, mote (corn), peanut sauce, and a spicy ají salsa.

In many Indigenous communities, cuy represents hospitality and respect, often served during special events and festivals like Pachamama Raymi.

Tasting it means connecting with a rich cultural tradition that has endured for centuries.

Would you dare to try this Andean delicacy?

🌄 May 24, 1822
At dawn, on top the Pichincha volcano, destiny awaited. General Antonio José de Sucre led a diverse army—Ecuadorians, Venezuelans, Colombians, and Peruvians—against Spanish forces. In a fierce battle, they secured Quito's freedom.

Feel the courage, witness the unity.

Lava Lizard! 🦎✨

Its scientific name is Microlophus albemarlensis. These incredible creatures are endemic to the islands and adapt perfectly to their arid environment.

Did you know...?

- Their preferred habitat is dry areas where they can hide under rocks and in crevices to protect themselves from the sun. ☀️

- Males are dark with yellow-green spots, while females have a beautiful reddish-brown color. 🌈

- Males defend their territory, and once they find a mate, they drag her to copulate (males can even have a harem of 2 to 4 females 🫢) 💞

It is vital to protect their unique habitats to ensure that these wonderful lizards continue to thrive in their native islands. 🌍💚

Let's care for Galápagos biodiversity and learn more about these amazing and splendid lizards! 🦎💖

🌋 Did You Know This About the Galápagos Islands? 🐢

The Galápagos Islands aren’t just a natural paradise… they’re a living laboratory of evolution!.
On each island, Darwin found unique species of finches—each one adapted in a different way to its environment. These birds were the spark behind his groundbreaking theory of natural selection.

But that’s just the beginning. The Galápagos is the only place on Earth where you can find:

🦎 Marine iguanas that dive and swim in the ocean
🐢 Giant tortoises that can live over a century
🐧 Equatorial penguins (yes—penguins in the tropics!)

All thriving in an ecosystem unlike anywhere else on the planet.

📸 Swipe ➡️ to meet these amazing creatures in their wild, untouched habitat.

💬 Which one would you love to see up close?
