One of my favorite things about Ayampe is the offerings of my favorite "fruit mon" .villacreses.7568 ....
He comes to your doorstep several times a week with a carefully curated collection of the best fruits and vegetables he can acquire. He's been known to take an 8 hour bus ride to Riobamba for the finest Andean tomatoes after all.
What makes him different from the other vendors... His attention to quality, seasonality and peak ripeness. He also has other tasty offerings such as (a chicken and plantain baked dish with peanuts, achiote, dates, cilantro and hard boiled eggs - Woah!)
His deserves a separate paragraph. He sources little Tabasco or bird chilies and ferments them with garlic and herbs in oil to make the most pungent and funky and addictive hot sauce. I sometimes eat food just to be a vessel for the aji 🌶️ 🔥😋
