Turismo Comunitario Salasaka is a community–based tourism organization set in Huasalata Community, Salasaka –or “Salasaca” in Spanish/English.

We are community based tourism founded for the culturally-conscious travelers, who seeks an authentic experience of a local Ecuadorian Andean community’s heritage. Salasaka, an indigenous town located in the Ecuadorian highland, is settled by families full of life, love for their customs, and deep commitments to preserving their culture and environment. A group of families has begun to have substa

ntial control over and involvement in Salasaka’s development and management. Indigenous families invite you to experience their customs, food, lifestyle, and set of beliefs. Whilst experiencing a unique cultural trip, you will fall in love and become aware of the ancestral identity of Salasaka. One of the most rewarding experiences you can have is a visit to family homes. By chatting with members of the family and learning a glimpse of their daily life, you can see, hear, touch, taste and do things you might have never done otherwise. Interacting directly with Salasakas customs and manners by staying with local families will allow you gain a new perspective on culture, both of your own and others. Ultimately by choosing to visit Salasaka, you are directly supporting the local community in beneficial and sustainable ways. Your cultural trip is a great step in preserving an indigenous culture post-pandemic.

🏡Turismo Comunitario Salasaka is a community-based tourism project. It is also an experienced community travel operator located in Salasaca, Ecuador. ✈You can arrive on Quito or Guayaquil Ecuadorian Airports from any of your home country then you start an amazing trip to Salasaka.

🛬Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO): The travel from the Airport (UIO) to Turismo Comunitario Salasaka takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, 180 km (111.85 mi) away; it is south from the Ecuadorian capital city.

🛩Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport (GYE): The travel from the Airport (GYE) to Turismo Comunitario Salasaka takes 6 hours, 269 km (167.15 mi) length; it is north from the Ecuadorian biggest city.

🏔And, it is located in the heart of the Andes. Private transportation ride takes 20 minutes, 10.7 km (6.65 mi) away, from Ambato city and it is set 45 minutes before you get to Baños de Agua Santa.

🚌In the Huasalata Village, where the community-based tourism project is located, there is a bus running every 30 min, which takes you to Salasakas main road from where are frequent buses running straight to Ambato/Quito, but also towards Baños, Puyo, Tena and Macas. You can also reach Cotopaxi and Chimborazo on a day trip (which are by the way holy mountains for some indigenous people).
