Galapagos Hawk - Endemic (VU)

Common resident breeder in the western and central Islands of Galapagos. Perches conspicuusly in open areas. A generalist that takes a meal where it can get one, mostly insects, other invertebrates, reptiles, rodents, eggs and young birds or carrion.

Lobería - San Cristóbal Island

An attractive beach protected by reefs that are often home to many sea lions. The beach offers a good place in the water and can be a good place to watch the dramatic bursting of the waves against the stones. The site is widely used for recreation by local people, especially on weekends.

Feeding Type: Piscivorous

Feeding preferences: It feeds on fish and squid.

Trophic paper: Carnivore

Reproduction mode: Exclusively sexual

Reproductive biology: During courtship the male inflates his red crop to attract the female. They place an egg which is incubated for 55 days by both parents, when the parents hatch they feed the chick for 5 months.

Distribution: Islote Gardner (Floreana), Española, Tortuga Islet, Cuatro Hermanos, San Cristóbal (Pitt and Punta Pitt), Genovesa, Darwin, Wolf and Daphne Major.
