Blue-footed bo***es are often photographed on land, somewhat awkwardly stomping their iconic blue feet, perhaps tending to their young or gulping down a fish. This dynamic shot shows the rest of the story—a high-speed dive in which the aerodynamic boobie pitches headlong into the ocean to catch his or her lunch. In fact, these highly specialized divers can hit the water at up to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour), reach depths of 80 feet (25 meters), 𝘢𝘯𝘥 can pursue fish underwater. To the passing Giant Galapagos Tortoise, our elevated Safari Tents are just additional tree trunks to be grazed amongst. We built our African-inspired tents in this manner not only to accommodate the creatures who came before us, but to take advantage of the sea breeze that keeps our tents comfortable year-round. As we explain on our website...if the Camp were ever to cease operating, there would be very little trace that we were ever here—a guiding principle of our approach to sustainable construction.

There are no cages or queues when it comes to wildlife encounters in the Galapagos Islands. It's true that kids who get to experience animals up close and person here may be disappointed in future encounters (say, at the city zoo), but we think the trade off is worth it! These moments are not only photogenic but have the potential to inspire future generations to care for our planet for decades to come, and are a big part of what drives our team to continue to offer the best in child-friendly journeys at our family-owned and operated Camp.

For those planning a proposal, a honeymoon, or an anniversary, there is no better time to be in the Galapagos Islands than January and February. Fewer families are traveling during this time of year, which naturally makes for a quieter time to be commuting to and from any destination. Of course, with only nine Safari Tents and one Family Suite spread out here on Santa Cruz Island, no matter when you visit us you can expect a customized, private, and romantic experience!
