Today I explored the lowlands of Cotopaxi National Park, awaking to the most blue of skies…. So lucky! 🍀❤️🌞

From volcanic springs, to hummingbirds, to white-tailed deer 🦌 to wild horses 🐎 and such diverse unique micro eco-systems, full of flowers, birds and so many new things to me.

Appreciated my local guide taking me to the Archaeological site, and giving me some insights to this wonderful park, where I could easily spend a week exploring.

Here I am surrounded by 4 volcanoes 🌋 🫶🏽☀️….

Tomorrow off to Antisana Volcano 🌋 the Andean Condor Refuge. 🙂

Arrived yesterday at my Lodge in the foothills of Cotopaxi; today I explored the local waterfalls, with some interesting ladders to navigate, but rewarded with great vistas.

I ate lunch at Fuego Waterfalls, check out my couple of videos of the White Capped Dipper, one shows the little fellow going into his nest.

I’m excited to spend the day in Cotopaxi National Park tomorrow. 🌋

After returning from the Amazon, I had 4 full nights in Quito, to aborb the vibe, catch up on work, go to another Tango Milonga, and took amongst many other activities a great walking tour, which I wish I had done to start, with my overall 8 full days in the area over this trip. 🙂🫶🏽

I just got back from spending 3 nts in the Cloud Forest, at Bellevista Private Reserve, and spent the day in Mindo on my return, visting different sites I will share later, to see more diversity of Tucans, and Humming birds, there are so so many, I simply am lost in the number of bird species…. 😅🙃☀️👍

There was also an Andean Bear 🐻 near Bellevista lodge, we got to see most days, and I was told about 8 in total on the reserve area are known based on motion camera observation. 🐻 🙂

Today, I am off to Coapaxi for 3 nights, to explore the volcanoes…. So it’s going to get a little chilly, with higher elevation…

Here is a fun interaction with Humming birds, near Mindo, at Las Contingas Reserve; Lot’s of sugar and bananas 🍌 used here to help us see and visit with our feathered friends! 😆😋🙋‍♂️🙂❤️

Yesterday brought 15 days of Galapagos’s adventures to a close, with our final morning visit to North Seymour Island; a real treat for all of us, and especially guests on this weeks trip, as they had not done the Eastern Island tour the week before, as I had…. We all got to see most much of the species on North Seymour as we had seen on Genovesa Island last week 🙌❤️

So again for those just doing the Western Islands North Seymour is essential and I found it delightful;

The morning walk treating us to a lovely rainbow 🌈 to end, Blue Bo***es dancing 🕺 in style and great numbers with mature birds showcasing their blue feet…💕🙏

The first image shows Nazca Bo***es from the day before, the largest concentrations we saw were on Espinola Island.

Thanks to all those who shared this journey with me, I hope to bring a group back in the near future. 🙋‍♂️🙂👍🫶🏽

Two more sleeps on board 🙂🫶🏽

Today’s highlights; Punta Espinoza, on Fernanda Island, 🏝️ where the largest concentrations of Marine Iguanas exist.
The joy is the snorkelling 🤿 and spending time with them in the water while they graze sea w**d at the bottom along side Turtles.

I now wish I had got a waterproof camera 📷 cover, to give some insights, under the water. Today the seals were so playful dancing around me, it had us all laughing, they did not want us to leave, staying by us as we were getting back on board. Glad they did not try to take a nibble too 😅😆🙃🙂…

We saw the Brown Noddi Tern well today, and a lot more blue-footed Bo***es, I learned the numbers have dropped by a huge amount due to their food source disappearing due to ocean global warming, I will need to read up on this.

We had a little drink and song as we crossed the Equator 🌞 🌎 🙌

This is the Island where on a David Attenborough series you can see snakes inside the Volcano trying to catch the Iguanas. (Easy to find and watch on YouTube, a fun watch). 👍👍👍

We are traveling back now to the eastern side of Isla Isabela, around the Northern tip…. Tomorrow we will wake up by Santiago Island, for our last day of adventures before I head off to the Amazon Basin ❤️🙋‍♂️🫶🏽🙌…

A lovely day spent between Urbana Bay & Tagus Cove 🫶🏽🙂🌞

Those blue-footed bo***es feet, sure are blue!

Wonderful time spent with this handful of tortoises this morning. A handful out of 8000, on this part of Isabela. I came to understand that this is the area where the tortoise has the historical foothold here maintaining a balance with its environment…. Lots to learn and understand.

So many new species of fish, lots more Penguin 🐧 activity during snorkelling, I’m told only 1200 are left in total, a seal passed by about 2 feet away, a big one, think I skipped a heart beat. The number of sea turtles here is outstanding due to the nutrients coming from the currents here, they are literally below us grazing carpets of sea w**d of different kinds.

Lot’s of new bird ID…. So much here…. Enjoy the spoor, it’s from the tortoise, 🐢 and a lovely group photo of us and even a couple of me! 🙂🫶🏽☀️

Today we walked in Punta Marina Bay, in the morning. More Cactus 🌵 species, Lava Sedges, ferns growing in the shade…

So many sea Turtles, while snorkelling 🤿 … this is due to the rich ocean currents bringing nutrients to the western side of Isabela Island…. The west has much fewer sea turtles due to the isolation from these nutrients.

You can see the video showing the two volcanoes 🌋 I talked about yesterday that are isolated from one another and the two tortoise species evolved.

Here you can see also the large colonies of Marine Iguanas 🦎…. The eastern islands only see small groups and individuals…. Look at the colony on Isabela Island 🙌🤗🫶🏽…

We kayaked in Elizabeth Bay today, and also took the power boats out, we enjoyed the company of Penguins 🐧 and silently paddled through mangroves with ongoing company of sea turtles, Penguins, Pelicans, Frigate Birds, and a new species the flightless Cormorant 🙋‍♂️🤗☀️🫶🏽…. fisherman were gutting fish (Groupa) they catch outside the Galápagos Park, but are allowed to gut their catch inside attracting lots of hungry mouths.

Isabela Island 🙂

and 🌋 ❤️

Sierra Negro is a collapsed Crater, largest in the world, it made the Ngorongoro Crater even feel small….

We enjoyed our walk in and out 🙂🙋‍♂️😎🥾

We visited the Tortoise 🐢 breeding centre here in Isabela, took a close look at the features of the Sierra Negro Tortoise evolved on Sierra Negro Volcano.

On Isabela Island, see my images, the tortoise with the flatter, saddle-backed shell is Chelonoidis becki, found on Volcán Wolf.

This species evolved a saddle-shaped carapace that allows them to stretch their necks higher to reach vegetation in drier, lowland habitats.

In contrast, dome-shelled species like Chelonoidis guntheri (Sierra Negra) (see my images) have more rounded shells suited to lush highland environments. Thanks for the help Wikipedia 🙋‍♂️☀️🙂

Today was very pink 🦩🤗☀️🌞💕

The morning walk and snorkel 🤿 at Sombreno Chino, and the afternoon snorkel 🤿 and 🦩 flamingo walk at Rabida…. So nice to see many endemic Greater Flamingoes that have evolved into their own sub-species, here on the Galapagos.

I really must go to bed 🛌 😅🙏🙋‍♂️❤️😘🍎🥕👋🏿👌…

Genovesa Island 🏝️ is a Gem… ❤️🦅

Owls 🦉 Frigate Birds, Red Footed Bo***es, Marine Iguanas 🦎…. Rays, snorkeling with Hammer 🔨 head sharks, More and more sea turtles ….

So much to learn. Be sure to include Genovesa Island on any tour. 🙂🙋‍♂️😎👍☀️
