One of the things I love about finding animals during courtship is that you get to observe both the male and female at the same time. Why is that exciting? Because in many species, sexual dimorphism means the two sexes can look completely different—different sizes, colors, even unique structures like horns that the other lacks.
Seeing a pair together is often the best way to understand and identify both sexes of a species, especially when it’s new to you… or even new to science.

Reproduction inédite ! 🐸🌿

Incredible discovery! 🔥🐍
By the side of a path, a small ball the size of a 2€ coin goes unnoticed by many predators and people—but wait! It’s not a leaf, but a newborn Grage Jacquot (Bothrops bilineatus) in the heart of the Amazon rainforest! In Ecuador, it's the smaragdinus subspecies, which differs from its relative on the eastern side of the continent.
⚡ A gem for science and a reminder of the incredible richness of our biodiversity! 🌎

Did you know that the Podocnemis unifilis, also known as the South American river turtle or charapa (Spanish), is an important part of the Amazonian ecosystem? Unfortunately, these turtles are threatened by habitat loss and illegal egg collection.

That's why we're committed to protecting them! We have a project to protect the eggs of these turtles. Once the eggs hatch, we release the baby turtles into the river. This helps to ensure the survival of this species.

You can help protect the charapas by spreading the word about our project. The more people know about this issue, the more likely we are to make a difference.

The pronotum or helmet of some treehoppers can be detached in case a predator try to hunt them, like in this Anchistrotus ap. , allowing them to scape. In the photo an adult is feeding on the sap of a plant.

Posted • Anolis scypheus, known as the yellow-tongued or dim anole, is a fairly common forest-dwelling lizard in the western Amazonian region. They’re fairly hard to spot against the leaf litter, but we saw four total during our four-day stay in Yasuní National Park. Like other anoles, they have really interesting and colorful dewlaps, sporting red and blue patterns in contrast to their cryptic appearance
