For several decades now, a group of passionate volunteers and mission-driven hunters have found the time to travel—often in harsh conditions, braving wind and cold—to a small Estonian island with one goal: to protect ground-nesting birds from small predators. Every spring, Kumari Island welcomes a boatful of hunters, greets them with fierce sea winds, and challenges them to locate nest raiders with the help of hounds. The year 2025 was no different from previous years, as members of the Haapsalu Hunting Society once again engaged in nature conservation in the truest sense of the word.
