The Statue of Kaaper – More Than Just a Sculpture

Kaaper (Sheikh el-Balad) – The Wooden Miracle!

One of the greatest masterpieces of the Old Kingdom, carved over 4,500 years ago from sycamore wood, and still preserved to this day!

The eyes were made of quartz, crystal, and copper, giving an astonishingly lifelike gaze.
The arms were carved separately to add a natural sense of movement.
His features are remarkably realistic — a rounded belly, calm expression, and gentle smile, as if he’s about to speak.
The forward step with his staff symbolizes dignity and vitality.
Its survival in wood after thousands of years is proof of the Egyptians’ unmatched skill in craftsmanship and preservation.
