Chasing the Perseids Across Egypt’s Desert Skies ✨🌌

The Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year, with shooting stars racing across the night sky as Earth passes through debris left by Comet Swift–Tuttle. In 2026, the Perseids reached their peak on the night of August 12–13, with ideal dark-sky conditions thanks to the New Moon.

At Desert Cruise Travel, we travelled to Wadi El-Hitan in Fayoum to experience the Perseids under the Egyptian desert sky. ✨ While the meteor shower wasn't as visible as we had hoped from Wadi El-Hitan, the display was clearer from the White Desert and in several other parts of the world where weather and viewing conditions were more favorable.

But if you missed the Perseids, don't worry the sky has more shows coming!

This Wednesday, August 12, Egypt's night sky will see three rare astronomical events in less than 24 hours.

Six Planet Parade

Before sunrise, six planets will line up across the sky: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Mars and Saturn will be easy to see with the naked eye, while Uranus and Neptune need binoculars or a telescope.

Perseid Meteor Shower

The same night, the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak, with up to 100 shooting stars per hour. A new moon means the skies will be unusually dark and clear.

Total Solar Eclipse

A total solar eclipse will also take place, crossing Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain. Egypt won't see the eclipse directly, but the planets and meteors will be fully visible away from city lights.
