The Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria is one of Egypt’s oldest museums, first opened in 1895. It focuses on the Greco-Roman period when Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures blended in Alexandria.

It houses thousands of artifacts like statues, mosaics, pottery, and ancient coins that reflect daily life, art,and trade in that era.

After being closed for major restoration since 2005, it reopened in 2023 with updated galleries across two
floors, showcasing both historical artifacts and themes like the Nile, economy, and arts. 🏛✨

People fade, but memories last ✨

500 years ago, Sultan al-Ghuri built a magnificent complex consisting of a Wikala (caravanserai), a Khanqah (lodging for Sufis), a Madrassa (school/mosque), and a Sabil (water fountain). Al-Ghuri designed his foundation as a city within a city, it even included a commercial market.

The complex also included a Qubbah, a memorial dome meant to contain the Sultan's tomb.

Ironically, the Sultan died in the middle of a battle, and his body was never found… but his memory remained.

The place still echoes with memories of the glorious days when Mamluk Sultans ruled the two seas. It’s as if Sultan al-Ghuri knew, in a way, that his days and his monuments would stand as a testament to Mamluk
greatness.
