Why did the Ancient Egyptians build the Sphinx?

Ancient Egyptians built the Sphinx for a number of reasons. To impress viewers with the awesome might of the King. The face of the Sphinx is a portrait of Khufu. To announce and claim the land. To portray the King's relationship with Ra, the sun god. To glorify Khufu and declare his hegemony. also it has been built to guard important areas in their ancient civilizations such as tombs. The head represents that of a pharaoh or god and the body is that of a lion. It also symbolizes strength (the lion’s body) and wisdom (the human face). It somehow stroke fear to trespassers and a sense of security to those around it.

How did the ancient Egyptians make their clothing?

Most ancient Egyptian clothing was linen, which is woven from fibers of the flax plant. Linen is both sturdy and very cool; its major disadvantage is the effort of extracting the fibers from the plant. The plants have to be cut and then allowed to rot for a while in ponds or in the open air so that the fibers will come away from the woody part of the stem. After that they have to be combed out. Before machinery it was a very labor-intensive process, and it still requires more work than cotton does today, which is why linen clothing is more expensive than cotton clothing.

In the Old World, cotton arose in India and did not come to Egypt until around 600-700 AD, long after the ancient Egyptian period.

They used looms made of wood. Although this one appears to be vertical, it is actually horizontal, what's called a ground-loom.

Vertical looms appeared later. The warp (the fixed part of the fabric) was held lengthwise from a top bar and weighted at the bottom with loom-weights, which were rocks with holes bored in them or just dried mud:

Wool was also available, but used less because it was so warm; it appears more in blankets than clothing.

They also wove sandals out of palm fibers and palm leaves while they're still fresh and flexible. After the leaves dry out they become quite rigid and tough.

Why are Egyptian mummies so well preserved?

- Most “perishable” organs are removed including the brain, guts, eyes..etc. Not that the skin and bones and other more durable parts aren’t perishable, but these latter can last longer if properly processed.

- Most fluids are removed mainly though exposing the co**se in some kind of salt.

- Those mummies were sealed inside tombs that were closed so no animals or humans would mess with them. They are also protected against rain, wind and other erosion factors.

- Those tombs were dug in an extremely dry climate which helped a lot in preserving them.

Are people allowed to climb the pyramids of Giza?

Touching the carvings on the walls inside temples is not allowed in order to protect these thousands years old drawings. Now, can you imagine walking over & climbing a thousands years old masonry structure?

Definitely this would introduce some damage to the pyramid. I also want to emphasize on how dangerous it really is. By definition, you are jeopardizing your life when you decide to do such action without any safety measures.

It is prohibited by law to climb the famous pyramids in Egypt. However, if you did so you would't be jailed, instead you would receive a life ban from entering Egypt. This is exactly what happened with a German tourist who climbed one of the pyramids on Jan-2016.

How long would the pyramids take to build with modern methods?

This answer will attempt to find the minimum length of time to construct the Complex, depending on three interpretations of "modern methods" regarding the final product design. One will use poured concrete; one will be old school, perfect duplicates; and one will use modern steel and glass.

2.5 million cubic meters of limestone were used to construct the Great Pyramid over 20 years.
That's 342.46 m^3 / day.

Compare to modern construction methods:

16 million cubic meters of concrete were used to construct the Three Gorges Dam over 17 years.
That's 2,579 m^3 / day

That's about 7.5 times faster. If you were to pour the pyramids from reinforced concrete, given all the manpower, resources, and labor and quality standards of the People's Republic of China, you could construct the Great Pyramid in three years.

Note that this is the construction phase, alone. The bureaucratic hurdles, hiring process, transportation of materials and equipment, ..etc, will surely add more time to the process.

Agriculture has undergone significant developments since the time of the earliest cultivation. Organised farming begins in Egypt before 5000 BCE. And helped them the existence of river Nile. Also that appeared in their drawings and carvings in their temples and tombs.

The ancient Egyptians, religion was inseparable from everyday existence. They were a nation of farmers, who depend on the fertility of the land and its creatures for their livelihood. In trying to understand how the powers of nature could bring life and destroy it, the Egyptians personified these forces, worshiped them as gods and created myths about them. To retain the favor of the gods, they believed they should farm in accordance with god-given rules, offer sacrifice and continually give thanks.

So their worship helped them to build their own empire and defend it self against enemies.

And constructing one of older kingdom in history "Pharaohs", applying insurance for workforce and built a strong army.
