BARON EMPAIN PALACE TO HOST CULTURAL HUB & WHIMSICAL NEW DINING DESTINATION
Just a few short years ago, the abandoned Baron Empain Palace in Heliopolis was mired in myth and fantastical stories of hauntings. Following a complete restoration and renovation in early 2020, the palace has become a must-visit destination in a city already brimming with magical monuments. And now it seems the palace has a further glow-up in store.
A fresh minimalist logo precludes the many new features that will become mainstays at the Baron Empain Palace. A cultural centre in its basement will hold workshops and art exhibitions, while the palace's back garden will play host to a lively high-end restaurant and a cute cafe for more casual get-togethers. We’re told that the whimsical decor is designed to evoke nostalgia for the Cairo of the early 1900s.
The Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities – who are responsible for the project – have also been at pains to point out that the new developments will not replace or alter the existing historic structure of the Palace.
While the cultural hub has already come to life with a recent photo exhibition from the Museum of Islamic Art, as yet there’s no word on when the dining destinations will be open to the public. We await with bated breath.
