"من يحمل النظرة؟!"، ورشة عمل لاستكشاف أسئلة الجماليات، والنظرة، والنوع الاجتماعي، في تمثيلات الرغبة في السينما المصرية السائدة.

مع مجموعتين عمل وبتنسيق صانعة الأفلام سلمى الطرزي تنطلق الورشة باستخدام المونتاج كأداة أساسية للبحث والتحليل، بالعمل على عدد من المشاهد الأيقونية في السينما المصرية السائدة في أواخر السبعينيات، في محاولة لتشريح العوامل التي ساهمت في بناء صور الحب والرغبة.

“Who Carries The Gaze”, two work groups exploring questions of aesthetics, gaze, and gender in representations of desire in mainstream Egyptian cinema.

Curated and moderated by filmmaker Salma El Tarzi, the groups take off using editing as a key method of inquiry. The participants will work with iconic scenes from mainstream Egyptian cinema of the late 1970s, dissecting the elements that contribute to the construction of images of romance and desire.
We’re excited to share more of the progress and outcome with you!

We are honored to announce that Cimatheque is officially part of the (FIAF) International Federation of Film Archives! As a team we are proud of this accomplishment that encourages us to continue our work.
The FIAF was founded in 1938 to preserve film archives and make them accessible. We are grateful to be part of this network alongside 184 archives in 80 countries. SInce 2012 we have been dedicated to activating our Egyptian cinematic archive and preserving it, beyond traditional archival practices. This is an important milestone in Cimatheque’s journey and we hope it enables us to make more progress and collaborate with other entities that share the same values.

الاتحاد تأسس في 1938 بهدف الحفاظ على أرشيفات الأفلام واتاحتها. فخورين إننا جزء من الاتحاد مع 184 أرشيف من 80 دولة. من بداية سيماتك في 2012 واحنا بنسعى للحفاظ على أرشيف السينما المصرية وتفعيله من خلال ممارسات بديلة ومستقلة. وجودنا في الFIAF

سعدنا باستضافة طلبة مدرسة سينما الجزويت في الصعيد بالتزامن مع زيارتهم للقاهرة لحضور مهرجان منصات. ☀️ مدرسة الجزويت بالصعيد Jesuit Film School in Upper Egypt

اللقاء تم بتنسيق من إدارة مدرسة سينما الجزويت في الصعيد في إطار ورشة عمل تحت برنامج "اسم مؤقت"، ناقشنا مع المخرجة نهى عادل سيناريو فيلمها الأول "مارشيدير" وشاهدنا نسخة أولية للفيلم، كان كمان معانا مونتير الفيلم ميشيل يوسف، وأدارت الحوار مديرة المدرسة يمنى خطاب. ✨

مشاركات الطلبة وتفاعلهم كانوا ملهمين لينا كلنا، ممتنين جداً لوجودهم معانا. 🎬

برنامج "اسم مؤقت" هو برنامج لقاءات دورية لعرض مسودات من أفلام مكتملة، يتبعها مناقشة مع اصحاب الأعمال. البرنامج يتم بدعم من السفارة الهولندية بمصر.

We happily hosted students from the Jesuit Film School in Upper Egypt during their visit to Manassat Film Festival. ☀️

For a special edition of our on going program "Working Title", and coordinating with the school's management, we had a workshop and discussion of Noha Adel’s first film “In Reverse”. We held a collective reading of the script and watched an early cut of the film.

It was a pleasure having filmmaker Noha Adel, editor Michel Youssef, and of course leading the discussion, head of the film school, Yomna Khattab. ✨

The students’ participation and engagement were refreshing and inspiring! We’re looking forward to having them again. 🎬

Working Title is a program of periodical gathering featuring drafts of completed films, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.

📝 From the latest “Working Title” gathering with Khaled Moeit ✨ It was a pleasure getting to watch & discuss Khaled’s work.

“Working Title” is a program where we host filmmakers with drafts of their films, in an attempt to engage with the films beyond the final version that was screened. 🎥

We watched and discussed two films: “Dullsville” and a work-in-progress version of “Crocodile Tears”. We are very grateful to Khaled for generously sharing his work with us, and to everyone who came for their engagement.

"اسم مؤقت" هو برنامج لقاءات دورية لعرض مسودات من أفلام مكتملة، يتبعها مناقشة مع أصحاب الأعمال.

نحاول في هذا البرنامج إيجاد شكل آخر للحديث عن الأفلام بمعزل عن النزعة التقييمية أو الأحكام الخالصة. نعود لزيارة لحظة معينة في حياة العمل الفني ونقطتعها من سياقها لنتأمل الاحتمالات، الآمال، والمخاوف الكامنة بها.

آملين أن نعيد إحياء ديناميكية ربما فقدت مع لحظة اكتمال العمل، نتخيل من خلال هذا البرنامج محاولة لخلق مساحة هامشية تسمح لنا بالبوح عما قررنا مسبقًا أن نخفيه.

“Working Title” is a program of periodical gatherings featuring drafts of completed films, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.

Through this program, we aim to move beyond traditional evaluations and judgments, revisiting a specific moment in the life of an artwork. This moment, extracted from its broader context, becomes an opportunity to explore the possibilities, hopes, and fears carried within it.

Hoping to revive a dynamic state that might have been lost at the moment of the film’s completion, we imagine through this program a marginal space where we can express what we have previously decided to conceal.

⚠️ Due to limited space, the doors will be closed at full capacity.

✨ Proudly sharing this milestone in our Remastered journey! The Digital Image Restoration workshop with esteemed restorer Francesca Chelu Deiane came to an end, during the workshop participants learned digital image restoration and successfully restored two short films.

✨ We were also happy to host a public conversation and technical demonstration on digital image restoration, thank you to those who joined us.

✨ Thank you to the brilliant Chelu our mentor and to the participants for their great work, we look forward to more progress with the Remastered Program.
