The Hidden Pyramids in the desert (Dahshur, Meidum and Fayoum)

Itinerary Description:
Discover Dahshur, Meidum and Fayoum on a full day excursion from Cairo. Travel southwest to Dahshur, home to the Red Pyramid. Once the tallest man-made structure in the world, it now holds the humble title of the 3rd largest pyramid in Egypt. Adjacent to the Red Pyramid is its older brother, the Bent Pyramid. Named for its unusual change in steepness half way up, it is thought to be an early example of the shift from step to smooth-sided pyramids. Then proceed to Meidum where you can visit the most mysterious of all the great Pyramids. When Snefru came to the throne around 2575 BC, Djoser's complex at Saqqara was the only large royal pyramid that stood complete. But Snefru would become the greatest pyramid builder in Egyptian history by completing not one but three of them. Afterwards heading to Fayoum, Egypt's largest oasis. Considered as the "garden of Egypt" because of its lush fields bringing forth an abundance of vegetables and sugar cane, groves of citrus fruits, nuts and olives, this area was once the vacation spot of pharaohs of the 13th dynasty. From here you get a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, Lake Qarun and the oasis beyond. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Back to hotel in Cairo.
