😓😥Very sad news.
Our condolences to the families that lost their loved ones and courage for the wounded.
22 people were killed and 28 others injured on Wednesday when a bus carrying Egyptians and Jordanians overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in South Sinai.
The Ministry of Health reported the updated toll, saying that all those injured were transported to hospitals for medical care.
Thirteen of the injured were taken to Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital, nine to Saint Catherine Hospital and six to Al-Fayrouz Medical Complex.
The ministry said it immediately activated its central operations room after receiving the report and dispatched 20 ambulances to the crash site to evacuate the injured and provide first aid.
Meanwhile, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy directed officials to provide emergency relief assistance and take the necessary measures to support those affected by the crash.
Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said early today that preliminary information indicated that several Jordanians were among those killed and injured in the crash.
A team from the Jordanian Embassy in Cairo was on its way to Nuweiba to follow up on the condition of the injured and arrange for the transfer of the bodies of those killed to Jordan, Amman added.
Crash Circumstances
The bus, operated by Egypt’s Super Jet, was traveling from Cairo to Nuweiba with Egyptian and Jordanian passengers on board, according to preliminary reports by the Egyptian Compulsory Insurance Pool (ECIP).
The driver lost control of the bus near the Al-Saada area on the Dahab-Nuweiba road, causing it to overturn, ECIP said, citing initial information. The circumstances leading to the incident have not yet been officially confirmed.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly tasked a technical committee comprising the ministries of transport and interior, the South Sinai Governorate and the Administrative Control Authority with determining the causes of the accident.
The committee will assess the vehicle’s safety and security, the condition of the driver and the safety of the road, according to the prime minister’s directives.
Madbouly also directed the governor to ensure that all legal procedures are completed with the utmost precision, clear the aftermath of the accident and provide the necessary support to the families of those killed and injured.
Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) Executive Chairman Islam Azzam directed officials to expedite the payment of the prescribed compensation, amounting to EGP 100,000 for each death.
Compensation for injuries will be determined based on the disability percentage certified by the medical board, the FRA noted.
To expedite compensation procedures for Jordanian citizens affected by the accident, the ECIP said it will coordinate with the Jordan Insurance Federation to collect the required documents and data and take the necessary steps to settle and disburse the compensation due to them.
The prime minister and state officials extended their condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
