The face of King Seti I is considered one of the best-preserved faces in ancient Egyptian history.
The name Seti means “He who belongs to the god Set.”
He died 3,298 years ago and ruled Egypt during one of its greatest peaks. He was also the father of one of the most famous pharaohs in history—Ramses II.
Mummification during his reign had reached its peak of perfection.

Some people wonder why his mummy appears dark, assuming it was burned.
However, the black color is the result of a chemical reaction between the body and some of the embalming substances—one of which is natron salt.
Natron contains four compounds: two that absorb the body's fluids and two that create cells which consume bacteria, causing the blackened appearance.

Mummification techniques further developed during the 21st Dynasty, when embalmers began applying skin-toned colors to the mummies.
Seti I’s mummy is considered one of the best-preserved in the world.
