تشتهر نويبع بغناها بالمعالم السياحية البديعة والطبيعة الصحراوية البدوية الساحرة التي تتخللها الكهوف والسهول التي تذوب في هدوء مياه البحر الأحمر.
ويوجد الهواء النقي بعيدًا عن صخب وزحام المدن الكبرى، وتتعدد في الجميلة نويبع الأودية التي نحتتها مياه الأمطار وشكلتها الرياح لتجعل منها قطعا فنية فريدة،ومن أبرزها وادي الشواشي أووادي الوشواش.ورغم أن وادى الوشواش لا يبعد سوى 4 كيلو مترات عن منطقة رأس شيطان شمال نويبع، وتعتبر منطقة سفارى فريدة من نوعها، حيث تحيطها جبال الفيروز والجرانيت من كل جانب، وتتساقط فيها مياه السيول والأمطار لتكون منظرا رائعا،2.يحيط الوادي جبال الفيروز والجرانيت من كل جانب، وينقسم إلى ثلاثة عيون مياة عذبة لم تتبخر رغم حرارة المكان،
مياه الوادي دافئة بسبب أحجار الجرانيت.
قد يصل ارتفاع تلك الجبال من 100 إلى 150 متر.
يبعد وادي الوشواشي حوالي 15 كيلو متر من نويبع أتجاة طابا بالقرب من منطقة راس شيطان .

وهب الله جنوب سيناء جبال لا يوجد مثلها فى العالم أشهرها جبل موسى الذى يوجد به الوادى المقدس طوى والذى تجلى عليه رب العزة وكلم من فوقه موسى وبجانبه أعلى قمة جبلية بمصر جبل سانت كاترين الذى سمى بهذا الاسم لوجود جثمان القديسة كاترين بالإضافة لجبل عباس وعشرات الجبال الملونة التى توجد بطابا ونويبع ودهب ولكن هذه الكنوز فى طى النسيان ولم تستغل رغم أنها كنوز مليئة بالخيرات والمعادن النادرة.
جبل كاترين أو جبل القديسة كاترينا أو جبل طور سيناء يقع في محافظة جنوب سيناء في مصر، ويعتبر من أعلى الجبال في سيناء ويبلغ ارتفاعه 2.629 م فوق سطح البحر، تتساقط على الجبل الثلوج في فصل الشتاء مثل باقى جبال منطقة جنوب سيناء.

وسمي الجبل بهذا الاسم تخليدا للقديسة كاترين في المسيحية من الأسكندرية وهي من أهم القديسات في الغرب ولها دور كبير في انتشار المسيحية وماتت فداء لذلك ويوجد بالمنطقة دير وهو دير طور سيناء أو دير سانت كاترين، وتقول القصة " أن رهبان دير وجدوا جسدها أعلى الجبل حيث تم إعدامها في الأسكندرية ومن ثم اختفي جسدها من الأسكندرية وأن الملائكة قامت بوضع جسدها أعلى قمة الجبل ".

أعلى الجبل يوجد مصلى خاص بها في المكان الذي وجدم فيه جسدها. وبالقرب من المصلى يوجد حجرتين حيث الحجاج إلى الجبل يستطيعون البيات ويمكن تسلق
الجبل من ممر قام أحد كهنة الدير ببنائه.
يعتبر هذا الجبل المبارك من أفضل جبال الأرض عند الله ،وقد تم ذكره في القران كما تم ذكر سيناء
وتتميز منطقة سانت كاترين المناخ الفريد حيث تتساقط عليها الثلوج لفترات كبيرة من أشهر الشتاء وهو امر غير معتاد فى جمهورية مصر علاوة على أن المدينة مصنفه من هيئة اليونسكو ضمن أفضل المدن حفاظاً علي التراث الثقافي العالمي باعتبارها تحوى مزارات دينية يهتم بها المسلمين والمسيحيين واليهود.
يعتبر المناخ يصنف كما في الصحراء الساخنة فهو يحتوي على برودة ليلاً من أي مدينة أخرى في مصر ، ورطوبة منخفضة للغاية ،تحيط المدينة أعلى نطاقات الجبال في مصر مع العديد من الأودية الصغيرة المؤدية من حوض سانت كاترين إلى الجبال في كل الاتجاهات ، وتعتبر البلدة سانت كاترين على ارتفاع 1،600 متر (5،200 قدم) ارتفاع عال من المدينة نفسها ونطاقات عالية من الجبال التي تبني عليها تؤدي إلي توفير مناخ لطيف ، ومنعش ليلاً والصيف بارد والربيع ممتاز ، بينما أيام الشتاء الباردة جدا قد تصل الحراره في الليالي إلى 14 درجة مئوية (7 ° F) ، مما يجعل ذلك أمر مهم للغاية لتسخين المباني والأماكن العامة ، فتوجد مصادر مختلفة تعطي متوسط ​​درجات الحرارة المختلفة لمدينة سانت كاترين ، وتعتبر جبال سانت كاترين واحدة من أبرد المدن في مصر وغيرها من الأماكن الأخرى ، خصوصا في المناطق الجبلية في سيناء ، وتساقط الثلوج في سانت كاترين تجري بانتظام في أشهر الشتاء ديسمبر ويناير وفبراير ، إلا أنه يحدث أيضا تساقط الثلوج أحياناً في الخريف والربيع . تذخر منطقة سانت كاترين بالعديد من الحيوانات البرية مثل الثعالب والضباع والتياتل والغزلان والوعول والأرانب البرية والذئاب والقنفذ العربي والفأر الشوكي والجربوع والعديد من الزواحف مثل الطريشة وكذلك أنواع شتي من الطيور أهمها اللقلق والنسر والصقر والعقاب والعوسق والشنار والقطا المتوج والقمري وبومة بتلر والقنبرة والأبلق والتمير والغراب والعصفور والنعار والدرسة وغيرها وقد أعلنت هذه المنطقة محمية طبيعية منذ عام 1988
النباتات الطبية:
أثبت العلم و العلماء أن العلاج بالنباتات الطبية والأعشاب أخف ضرراً من الأدوية المستخلصة من المواد الكيميائية حيث اتجهت أبحاثهم ودراساتهم الآن إلى استخلاص الدواء من النباتات الطبيعية و الأعشاب لعلاج الكثير من الأمراض و هذا الاتجاه أضاف إلى مدينة سانت كاترين ميزة أخرى حيث يكثر بها النباتات الطبية والأعشاب التي تستخدم في علاج كثير من الأمراض. جبال جنوب سيناء يوجد بها معادن نادرة لم تستغل حتى الان مشيرا الى ان المنطقة الصناعية بابو زنيمه يوجد بها رمل الزجاج الذى يعتبر من انقى انواع الرمال المستخدمة فى صناعة الزجاج بالاضافة للرخام والجرانيت. تشمل محميتها العديد من الأشجار المعمرة، وبها تنوع‏ ‏نباتي‏ ‏يجذب‏ ‏السائحين‏ ‏حيث‏ ‏توجد‏ ‏أنواع‏ ‏نادرة‏ من النباتات الطبية، إضافة إلى واحة‏ ‏فيران‏ ‏التي ‏تتضمن ‏ما يقرب من 30 ألف نخلة، تتميز المحمية ‏بكثرة‏ ‏وديانها‏، كما يوجد بها ‏أول‏ ‏فندق‏ ‏بيئي‏ ‏نموذجي‏ ‏في‏ ‏مصر‏ ‏بوادي‏ ‏غربة‏، ‏وتنتشر‏ ‏بها‏ ‏آبار‏ ‏المياه‏ ‏العذبة‏، ‏وعدد‏ ‏من‏ ‏الثدييات‏ ‏النادرة‏ ‏والتكوينات‏ ‏الجيولوجية‏ ‏المتميزة‏.

ويقع دير سانت كاترين أسفل جبل كاترين أعلى الجبال في مصر، أقدم دير في العالم، يعد مزارا سياحيا كبيرا، حيث تقصده أفواج سياحية من جميع بقاع العالم، وهو معتزل، يديره رئيس الدير وهو أسقف سيناء، والذي لا يخضع لسلطة أية بطريرك أو مجمع مقدس ولكن تربطه علاقات وطيدة مع بطريرك القدس لذلك فإن اسم بطريرك القدس يذكر في القداسات.
تقع البلدة سانت كاترين على سفح منطقة جبل عال في سيناء وتسمى “سقف مصر”، حيث تعتبر أعلى جبال في مصر ، لكن الكثير من الجماعات والرحلات يفضلون فصل الشتاء فوجدوا أنها أكثر إثارة للاهتمام وجميلة للتنزه والتسلق في هذه الظروف المناخية .

جبل الموتى أسطورة فرعونية

تطورت السياحة من عطلة للراحة والاستجمام لتمتد إلى ميادين متنوعة شملت العديد من الأنشطة الإنسانية ماضيا وحاضرا ومستقبلا في إطار ما يسمى بالسياحة الثقافية التي تعنى بالعلاقات الإنسانية وتاريخها وعاداتها وتقاليدها، فالسياحة في مصر لا تقتصر على البحر والنيل والنزل الفخمة، بل يعد اكتشاف حضارتها القديمة انتصارا للسائح الذي لا يعرف عنها إلا ما قرأه في كتب التاريخ.
“جبل الموتى”، واحد من أكثر الآثار الفرعونية غموضا ، حيث يتواجد في واحة سيوة أو “واحة آمون”، تلك الصحراء القاحلة التي تنفجر منها ينابيع مياه ويحيطها أشجار الزيتون، حيث تمثل نقطة خضراء وسط الرمال الصفراء، ويوجد في شرقها “جبل الموتى” الذي يعد قطع مقابر فسيحة يحتوي على كتابات ورسوم مزخرفة ومزينة، ومن أشهر المقابر المتواجدة به مقبرة “التمساح”، ومقبرة “سي آمون”، والتي تعد من أعظم المقابر الفرعونية.جبل الموتى الذي يعد أسطورة تاريخية تعود إلى أيام الفراعنة، ويتكون من تربة جيرية ويعد بمثابة جبانة أثرية‏، يرجع تاريخها إلى الأسرة السادسة والعشرين قبل الميلاد،‏ ويمتد الجبل إلى العصر البطلمي والروماني.
يقع جبل الموتى على بعد‏2‏ كيلو متر من منطقة سيوة التابعة لمحافظة مرسي مطروح وتم اكتشافه عن طريق الصدفة عام‏1944‏ أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية عندما لجأ أهالي سيوة للاحتماء بالجبل فاكتشفوا المقابر به وهو عبارة عن جبل مخروطي الشكل يبلغ ارتفاعه‏50‏ مترا ويتكون من تربة جيرية ويعد بمثابة جبانة أثرية‏.‏يتميز هذا الجبل بمنظره العجيب فمن أسفله إلي أعلاه عبارة عن مقابر للموتي منحوتة علي شكل خلية نحل من الحجر علي هيئة صفوف منتظمة ومتتالية بشكل هندسي يشبه شكل الواحة القديمة‏.‏ يرجع تاريخ هذه الجبانة الاثرية إلي الأسرة ال‏-26‏ ويمتد للعصر البطلمي والروماني‏,‏ وتجمع هذه المقابر في تصميمها بين الفن المصري القديم والفن اليوناني ونشأ هذا الاندماج نتيجة اختلاط الثقافات‏.‏ بعض هذه المقابر توجد علي عمق كبير وكل مقبرة عبارة عن دهليز بشكل مستطيل ينتهي إلي فناء واسع مربع وهذا الفناء يتفرع منه مجموعة فتحات مخصصة لوضع الموتي‏.‏ومن أجمل المقابر الموجودة مقبرة سي أمون وهي تنتمي إلي أخد الأثرياء الاغريق والذي كان يتبع الديانة المصرية القديمة‏.‏ وعاش بسيوة ودفن فيها طبقا لتلك الديانة وتم الحفاظ علي تلك المقبرة بشكل جيد‏.‏ وتتمتع هذه المقبرة بمجموعة من النقوش البارزة وتضم رسما يمثل الآلهة نات وهي واقفة تحت شجرة الجميز‏.‏ثم مقبرة أخري اطلق عليها اسم مقبرة التمساح وسميت بهذا الاسم نسبة للرسوم المنقوشة عليها وهي عبارة عن شكل تمساح أصفر اللون يمثل الأله سوبيك وتمثل هذه المقبرة هيكلا أشبه بكهف مكون من ثلاث حجرات ولم يتم التعرف علي صاحب هذه المقبرة حتي الآن‏.‏ ومقبرة أخري تسمي ثيبر باثوت وهي مزينة برسومات ونقوش ساحرة مصبوغة باللون الأحمر الذي يغلب علي الأواني الفخارية المستخدمة في سيوة حتي الان ويرقد في تلك المقبرة تابوت حجري موضوع علي أرضية غرفة الدفن‏.‏وبالصعود إلي أعلي الجبل يمكن مشاهدة مناظر رائعة الجمال والجاذبية لواحة سيوة التي شكلت في مجملها العديد والعديد من معالم وكنوز الصحراء الكبرى.
المقابر داخل جبل الموتى:
مقبرة سي آمون تتمتع بمجموعة من النقوش البارزة تضم رسما يمثل الآلهة نات وهي واقفة تحت شجرة الجميز.
ووجود مقبرة التمساح وسميت بهذا الاسم نسبة للرسوم المنقوشة عليها وهي عبارة عن شكل تمساح أصفر اللون يمثل الإله سوبيك وتمثل هذه المقبرة هيكلا أشبه بكهف مكون من 3 حجرات ولم يتم التعرف على صاحب هذه المقبرة حتى الآن.
وعثر على مقبرة أخرى تسمي "ثيبر باثوت" وهي مزينة برسومات ونقوش ساحرة مصبوغة باللون الأحمر أغلبها على الأواني الفخارية المستخدمة في سيوة ويرقد في تلك المقبرة تابوت حجري موضوع على أرضية غرفة الدفن.
وبالصعود إلى أعلى الجبل يمكن مشاهدة مناظر رائعة الجمال والجاذبية لواحة سيوة التي شكلت في مجملها العديد والعديد من معالم وكنوز الصحراء الكبرى.تنتشر فوق الجبل مقابر صخرية ملونة منحوتة على الطراز اليوناني الروماني على ثلاثة مستويات (سفلي – أوسط –علوي)، وتجمع هذه المقابر في تصميمها بين الفن المصري القديم واليوناني، وهو اندماج يرجح أنه نشأ نتيجة اختلاط الثقافات‏، وكل مقبرة عبارة عن دهليز بشكل مستطيل ينتهي إلي فناء واسع مربع تتفرع منه مجموعة فتحات مخصصة لوضع الموتى‏.في طريق الهبوط من أعلى الجبل إلى أسفله، يوجد باب حديدي على إحدى المقابر المميزة يقول سكان سيوة إنها فرعونية خضعت لنظام تأمين مشدد للحفاظ عليها، كما أن الدخول إلى المقابر يجبر السائح على العبور من ممر ضيق يطل على حجرة فارغة صغيرة ترتفع عن الأرض بمقدار طول إنسان تقريبا، تبدو على جانبيها فتحات تهوية، وتتزين جدرانها بنقوش فرعونية دقيقة مازالت محتفظة بألوانها رغم مرور الآلاف من السنين.
