✨ The world's first recorded workers' strike happened in ancient Egypt

🌾 Around 1157 BC, the craftsmen who built the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings were paid in grain rations.

✊ When the rations arrived late, they put down their tools and walked off the job.

📜 The story is recorded on a papyrus, and the workers' village of Deir el-Medina can still be explored today.

✨ Ramesses II won the Battle of Kadesh... according to Ramesses II

⚔️ Around 1274 BC, he faced the Hittite army and was nearly trapped in an ambush. Most historians see the outcome as a stalemate.

🖼️ But he had it carved as a triumph on temple walls across Egypt, including Luxor Temple, Karnak and Abu Simbel. Ancient Egypt's biggest PR campaign, in stone.

🤝 About 15 years later, both sides signed a peace treaty.

✨ Ramesses II built one of Egypt's most beautiful temples for his queen

💛 Beside the great temple of Abu Simbel stands a second, smaller one, dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor.

📏 On its facade, Nefertari's statues stand almost as tall as the king's. In pharaonic art, queens were usually shown far smaller.

☀️ An inscription describes her as the one "for whom the sun shines".

✨ Ramesses II didn't just rule Egypt — he ruled for 66 years

👑 He lived to around 90 and outlived many of his own heirs.

🤝 After the Battle of Kadesh, he signed the first known peace treaty in history. A copy is displayed at the UN today.

🛂 In 1976, his mummy was issued a passport to fly to Paris for restoration, with the occupation listed as "King (deceased)".

✨ Tutankhamun's tomb wasn't found by an archaeologist first — it was found by a 12-year-old water boy

💧 In November 1922, Hussein Abdel Rasoul was fetching water for Howard Carter's excavation team, like he did every day.

🪨 While setting his jar down in the sand, he felt it hit something solid. He brushed away the dust — and uncovered the first step of a staircase that had been buried for over 3,000 years.

👑 Howard Carter was so moved by the discovery that he let young Hussein wear one of Tutankhamun's own golden necklaces.

🏛️ One of history's greatest discoveries... found by accident, by a boy just doing his daily job.

​Together, we stepped back thousands of years into the golden era of the pharaohs:
​👑 Valley of the Kings: Exploring the breathtaking, brightly painted royal tombs hidden deep within the desert valley.
🪨 Temple of Hatshepsut: Admiring the stunning terraced architecture of Egypt’s famous female pharaoh at Deir el-Bahari.
⚔️ Medinet Habu: Walking through the massive, deeply carved wall reliefs of Ramses III’s mortuary temple—always a favorite for intricate details!
🗿 Colossi of Memnon: Finishing our route with a classic photo stop in front of these legendary 18-meter stone guardians.

✨ How Tutankhamun actually died is still a mystery

🔬 CT scans revealed a broken leg and signs of infection around the time of his death. DNA testing also found evidence of malaria — possibly contracted more than once.
