This famous scene shows the solar cat's power, which protects the light from darkness.

The scene is based on the 7th hour of the Am Duat, a book only the kings had (written) in their tombs., but the wisdom predates the written language.

Later, it became part of the (Pert em Heru) Book of coming forth by day. . .
The cat has stripes and long ears, and sits on its hind legs, facing west.

It holds a knife in its left front paw and uses it to slay a huge snake that it pins down with its right front paw.

The snake, which looks like a grass snake, has a split tongue and writhes under a persea tree full of red fruits. . .
This is the scene of the solar cat ("the Great Cat of Heliopolis"), who kills Apophis, the enemy of the sun, under the Persea (Ished Tree) of Heliopolis.

The scene illustrates a part of chapter 17 of the Book of the Dead:

"I am the cat who split the Iched Tree in Heliopolis the night when the enemies of the Master of the Universe were destroyed".

The Great Cat is a symbol and manifestation of the powerful solar rebirth as Khepri-Re.

He has to defeat the snake Apophis every night to ensure his rising in the East, where the horizon is not just a line, but a specific point where the star emerges, which matches the mythical gates of heaven near the Ished tree.
