The Nawama

A now-vanished type of bed once used in ancient Upper Egypt.Traditionally made from mud, it was often crafted in small sizes for children.
The Nawama was designed to protect sleepers from scorpions, which are common in the region. Elevated above the ground and shaped somewhat like a mushroom, its structure caused scorpions climbing up from below to fall off before reaching the top.
