▫The concept of the Sacred Lake
dates back to the earliest phases of Ancient Egyptian religious architecture, likely as far back as the Old Kingdom, c. 2686–2181 B.C., though surviving examples are predominantly from the Middle Kingdom onward.

These man-made bodies of water were typically constructed within temple precincts, mirroring the primordial waters of Nun, from which, according to Ancient Egyptian cosmology, all creation emerged. The lakes symbolised the infinite expanse of cosmic waters, a place of renewal, purification, and rebirth.

Karnak Temple’s Sacred Lake is one of the most famous, built during the reign of Thutmose III (c. 1479–1425 B.C.), measuring approximately 120 by 77 metres. It provided water for temple rituals and was the site of nocturnal ceremonies and processions. Adjacent is the Temple of Amun-Re, the largest religious structure ever built.

▫ This mannequin of king was located in the annex of his tomb at the Valley of the Kings (KV62) and was found amid other items used in daily life and for ceremonial purposes.

It is made of wood covered with a thin layer of plaster, which was then painted. It has a smooth, white finish, suggesting that it may have been used for practical purposes rather than purely ceremonial display. Likewise, it stands about 150 cm tall, which is close to Tutankhamun’s actual height, making it a life-size representation.

The mannequin has no arms or legs, but features a torso with shoulders and a flat base for stability. This design suggests it was primarily functional. The chest and shoulders are anatomically accurate, and the surface shows some wear, likely from repeated use.

The mannequin was likely used to display or fit the pharaoh’s clothing and ceremonial attire. It would have allowed tailors or attendants to adjust garments and headdresses for Tutankhamun, with the flat top of the mannequin possibly being used to support and store Tutankhamun’s elaborate crowns or headdresses.

However, theories propose the mannequin may have been part of rituals, serving as a representation of the king when actual statues were not available or practical.

الملكة "حتشبسوت" الملكة الأسطورية.
​تعد هذه الرأس أيقونة رواق 11 بالدور الأرضي بالمتحف المصري بالقاهرة؛ وهي مصنوعة من الحجر الجيري الملون. كانت هذه الرأس جزءاً من تمثال "أوزيري" ضخم، وعُثر عليها في معبدها الجنائزي الفريد بـ الدير البحري.
لم تكن هذه الرأس مجرد عمل فني، بل كانت رسالة سياسية موجهة للشعب والكهنة. لكي تؤكد حتشبسوت أحقيتها في العرش كابنة للإله آمون، اختارت أن تُصور بالهيئة الملكية التقليدية (بما في ذلك اللحية المستعارة)، لتثبت أنها تمتلك صرامة وقوة الملوك الرجال، متجاوزة بذلك العادات التي كانت تقصر الحكم على الذكور.
​لم يكن حكمها مجرد سيطرة على العرش، بل كان علامة فارقة في تاريخ الأسرة الثامنة عشرة؛ حيث شهدت مصر في عهدها نهضة معمارية وتجارية غير مسبوقة، وأشهرها رحلتها إلى بلاد "بونت". لقد كانت حتشبسوت "المفضلة على السيدات" التي أثبتت أن الحكمة والحزم هما معيار الحكم الحقيقي.

Queen Hatshepsut, the legendary queen.

This head is an icon of Gallery 11 on the ground floor of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. It is made of painted limestone. This head was part of a colossal Osiris statue and was found in her unique mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari.

This head was not merely a work of art, but a political message to the people and the priests. To assert her right to the throne as the daughter of the god Amun, Hatshepsut chose to be depicted in the traditional royal attire (including a false beard), demonstrating that she possessed the sternness and strength of male kings, thus transcending the customs that restricted rule to men.

Her reign was not simply about seizing the throne; it was a turning point in the history of the Eighteenth Dynasty. Egypt witnessed an unprecedented architectural and commercial renaissance during her reign, most notably her expedition to the Land of Punt. Hatshepsut was the "favorite of women," proving that wisdom and decisiveness were the true hallmarks of leadership. Hatshepsut (fifth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty). Colored limestone.
