Went to the coffee shop at the garden centre today….
£4.99 for a hot chocolate….
£4.79 for a slice of cake….
£9.78!!
And it genuinely made me stop and think…
Because when I was 16, I got my first job and I was earning a little over £5 an hour!!!!
I’m 35 now.
And it got me thinking…
That hot chocolate and cake would have cost me almost TWO HOURS of work back then. 😂
Obviously, wages have gone up since I was 16…But so has the cost of basically EVERYTHING.
Food.
Bills.
Cars.
Holidays.
Houses.
Days out with the kids.
Even a hot chocolate and a slice of cake. 😂
And I think this is why the conversation around having an additional income stream has changed.
It’s not necessarily about wanting to be a millionaire.
Sometimes it’s:
“I’d like an extra £300 a month.”
“I’d like a bit more breathing room.”
“I’d like to be able to enjoy the little things without thinking twice.”
Because when you’re relying on one income to cover everything, the rising cost of everyday life can really start to bite.
And honestly…
I don’t think wanting another income stream is greedy.
For a lot of people, it’s simply about creating a little more freedom.
And that’s something I can understand.
Funny how a £4.99 hot chocolate can make you think about your entire financial life. 😂
I’d genuinely love to know is anyone else feeling like this?
