With its adjacent smaller oases, its population reaches around 30,000 inhabitants. In 2007, the oldest monuments of mankind were discovered in Siwa with a history reaching more than 3 million years. The Siwans have well preserved their traditions and customs; especially the Amazigh language in addition to the modern Egyptian dialect.

Siwa is one of Egypt's most natural cities. Most of
the visitors are keen to visit Fetnas Island and enjoy safari rides in addition to sand surfing. Visiting the old city of Shali, Mountain of the Dead, cold and hot springs, as well as Cleopatra's bath are very much recommended. Siwa is famous for its springs, small lakes, dates, olives, leather handcrafts and woven carpets; all this with reasonable prices. Siwa houses professional natural cure centers and has prestigious hotels built to match local architectural styles which attracts increasing number of tourists each year.

Amoun Temple, one of the most famous clairvoyants' hubs in old times, was visited by Alexander the Great where he was baptized as the son of Amoun, and they predicted that he will rule Egypt and the then-known world.
