Well off-the-beaten-track visits to furanchos, tiny vineyard-bar-restaurants licensed to sell their cosecha propia wines for only three months of the year (March-June), are a fabulous insight into the Galician home cooking and local wine-making traditions.

First visit to in A Coruña and superb. Dishes were sea-urchin with skate, scallop with guanciale, abadejo (haddock) with chard and fried lasagna de radicchio (yes!). No room for pud!

Breakfast in recent winners of the best tortilla de patatas in Spain award. I can confirm it's the mutt's nuts. Moist, rather than runny, gorgeous flavour from the Coristanco potatoes and top quality free range eggs making the wheat from the chaff difference. Hard to not drop in the place after a waltz around the Plaza (market) this most chilly of mornings... 🔝👏

Big thanks to Javier for hosting Asturian oenologist and viticulturist at the lovely Michelena 19, Pontevedra last night. Germán took us on a fascinating and entertaining wine journey featuring nine different wines from three very distinct regions: Ribera del Duero, El Bierzo & Rioja. Long before the pandemic I'd asked for the names of two winemakers that would help restore my faith in Ribera del Duero wine. Goyo and Germán, she replied without hesitation. How right she was then and now! See you at some point Germán & mil gracias for a great night!!
