There are places you don’t simply visit — you inhabit them.
And Cadaqués is one of those places.
Hidden behind the Cap de Creus massif, this white, seafaring village reveals itself as a timeless refuge, a corner where the Mediterranean becomes intimate and the light takes on an almost mystical quality. Here, where the Pyrenees gently fade into the sea, we begin one of our favorite romantic escapes.
Located 170 kilometers from Barcelona — around 2 hours and 30 minutes by car, depending on traffic and the time of year — the journey itself becomes part of the experience. We leave the city behind and, little by little, the urban landscape gives way to vineyards, the plains of the Empordà, and winding roads that signal the arrival at a place that feels different, secluded, and deeply authentic. Crossing Cap de Creus is, symbolically, stepping into another rhythm, another way of living and feeling the Mediterranean.
Cadaqués is where many people from Barcelona have spent their summers for generations. A place of hidden second homes filled with family stories, endless summers, and shared silences facing the sea. For many, returning to Cadaqués is like coming home.
Being at the easternmost point of the peninsula offers a unique privilege: here, we are the first to witness the birth of the day. At dawn, when the first rays of sunlight awaken the bay, we understand why Salvador Dalí oriented his life — and his home — toward the East. We wander through the cobbled streets of the old town, still wrapped in silence, when the village belongs only to those who rise early and know how to contemplate.
We let ourselves drift through the medieval labyrinth of the historic center.
Whitewashed houses, the rastell — that herringbone-patterned pavement made of sea stones — and the legendary Carrer del Call, the former Jewish quarter, envelop us in an atmosphere of simple yet profound beauty. Every corner becomes a photograph; every shadow, a story.
From above, the Church of Santa Maria of Cadaqués offers one of the most breathtaking views of the Empordà: the bay opening to the horizon, Es Cucurucuc, and the Cala Nans lighthouse. Its baroque altarpiece and historic organ bear witness to the resilient spirit of the village.
Just a short walk from the center lies Portlligat, an almost secret harbor, enclosed by small islets that turn it into a natural lagoon. Here, Dalí built his vital and creative universe. We visit his House-Museum, an organic structure born from old fishermen’s huts, where every room responds to a vital impulse, a cell of the soul.
The giant eggs crowning the house — symbols of rebirth and the primal home — remind us that in Cadaqués, the symbolic and the real coexist effortlessly.
Exploring the Cap de Creus Natural Park is like witnessing millions of years of geological and emotional evolution. The rocks, sculpted by the tramontana wind, seem almost alive. Here, we understand Dalí’s obsession with mental landscapes. We walk to Cala Jugadora, where the sun rises and the moon bids farewell, and discover wild coves such as Cala Culleró or Cala Nans — silent, pure, and deeply intimate.
The beaches of Cadaqués have a soul.
From Platja Gran, the social heart of the village, to small corners like Es Sortell, which offers one of the most beautiful perspectives of the white town reflected in the deep blue of the sea. Here, swimming is not a hurried gesture, but a slow, almost contemplative ritual.
For this romantic escape, we choose places that converse with the landscape:
Hotel Es Llané Petit, facing the sea — an elegant boutique refuge where waking up means opening your eyes to a calm Mediterranean.
Boutique Hotel Villa Salvador, intimate and sophisticated, with a carefully curated aesthetic that breathes serenity, design, and silence.
For lunch or dinner, we recommend spaces where the experience goes far beyond the plate:
Compartir Cadaqués, contemporary Mediterranean cuisine — refined and vibrant — perfect for an elegant romantic dinner.
La Sal – Es Xiringuito Ses Oliveres, absolutely magical, with a terrace suspended between sky and water. Fresh, intense, and authentic flavors.
The restaurant at the Cap de Creus Lighthouse, for those seeking unforgettable panoramic views, where gastronomy and landscape merge into a single emotion.
In Cadaqués, the real and the sublime brush against one another.
Here, light doesn’t just illuminate — it transforms.
From Magic Dreams Barcelona, we invite you to discover this place through our slow and sensitive gaze, where every walk, every sunrise, and every shared silence becomes an unforgettable memory.
Because there are destinations you remember…
and others, like Cadaqués, that stay with you forever.
