La Marmolada es el grupo montañoso más grande de las Dolomitas, se compone de caliza gris y en el interior hay el glaciar más grande de la cadena, el Glaciar de la Marmolada.

Una leyenda dice que una viejecita cogió el heno en el día de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves y la noche siguiente nevó tan copiosamente que se formó el glaciar, y ahora la viejecita todavía se encuentra debajo de él con su heno.
