On August 24, 2023, I purchased a ticket for my friend's journey from Accra to Toronto with Ethiopian Airlines. The itinerary included three stops: Addis Ababa, Dublin, and Washington before reaching Toronto, Canada.

Concerned about my friend's travel, I immediately contacted Ethiopian Airlines' global call center to verify that everything was in order for someone holding a Ghanaian passport to travel to Canada using their airline. The agent I spoke with took all the necessary details, conducted a check, and provided us with an assurance that everything was clear for the journey.

Fast forward to September 6, 2023, when my friend arrived at the airport ready to embark on his journey. To our shock and dismay, the airline informed him that he could not board the plane because he lacked the required transit visa for the United States. This was a significant oversight, especially considering that someone working for Ethiopian Airlines, who should have been well-informed about passport requirements, had given us the green light.

This incident has exposed a grave miscommunication issue within Ethiopian Airlines and has left us feeling cheated and let down by the airline's professionalism.

I urge all travelers to exercise extreme caution when dealing with Ethiopian Airlines and thoroughly double-check all travel requirements independently, even if you receive assurances from their representatives.
