If you’re planning a trip to Barcelona this May, take a short trip to Girona for the stunning Girona Temps de Flors 2026.

✨ From around 9–17 May 2026, the historic Old Town transforms into a huge open-air exhibition filled with floral installations. Think medieval streets, hidden courtyards, and iconic landmarks completely covered in creative flower displays.

One of the most common questions we receive from our clients is what destination they can visit as a day trip out of Barcelona. There are many options — I will share with you two day trips per day so you can plan your trip to Barcelona with a small trip around:

Tossa de Mar is a stunning, historic coastal town on Spain’s Costa Brava, renowned as the “Blue Paradise” for its blend of golden sand beaches and medieval history. Its hallmark is the 13th-century Vila Vella (Old Town), featuring intact stone walls and a lighthouse overlooking the bay.

How to go: From Nord Station there are direct buses every hour. The journey is 1.2 hours, and the cost is €14–€16 one way.

My recommendation is to arrive around 10am to explore the old town, have coffee, light bites or a nice cold beer before lunch. Enjoy lunch with a nice view of the beach. Then you can enjoy the beach for a few hours before taking the bus back to Barcelona.

Barcelona keeps showing up on the same list.

One of the top cities in the world for women traveling alone — alongside London, Paris, and Tokyo.

At first, it surprises people.

Because the city has a reputation.

But the reality is simpler.

Barcelona scores high for something that matters a lot when you travel solo:
👉 You’re rarely alone.

Central areas like Eixample or the Gothic Quarter are busy, well-lit, and active late into the evening.
You can walk, eat, explore — without that feeling of isolation.

That’s a big reason why so many women choose it.

But there is a catch:

👉 The main issue is pickpocketing.
Especially around La Rambla and on the Metro.

Not violent crime.

Barcelona also takes visible steps when it comes to safety.
At major events, you’ll often see “Punt Lila” stations — support points designed to help anyone who feels uncomfortable or unsafe.

So what’s the takeaway?

Barcelona isn’t perfect.

But it’s one of the few big cities where you can explore alone —
and still feel part of something.

And that’s exactly why more and more women are choosing it.
