Discover Sant Pau del Camp, one of the most fascinating hidden gems in Barcelona and one of the oldest Romanesque monasteries in Catalonia. Located in the heart of the Raval neighborhood, this medieval monastery was founded around the year 900 by Count Borrell II of Barcelona and became one of the most powerful Benedictine monasteries in the Crown of Aragon. In this video, I’ll show you the incredible history of Sant Pau del Camp, its Romanesque architecture, Visigothic symbols, the sculptures of the four Evangelists, its unique cloister with rare Islamic and Arabic influences, and how this monastery played a major political and religious role in medieval Catalonia, and even hosting meetings of the Catalan government during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1714. Did you know that is home to a full-scale replica of the legendary Royal Galley of ? ️
This impressive 16th-century warship was nearly 60 meters long and carried around 400 men on board, including more than 300 rowers. In this video, I’ll show you what life was like inside the galley, where the soldiers and captain were positioned, and some of the fascinating details that can still be seen today at the Barcelona Maritime Museum. A unique piece of naval history connected to the Battle of Lepanto, the Mediterranean, Catalan history, and Barcelona’s cultural heritage.

l’esglèsia de Sant Felip Neri in was Gaudí’s favorite church. These holes in the walls exist because fascist Italian aviation bombed Barcelona with 250 kg bombs (they usually used 40-60 kg ones). They weren’t targeting infrastructure but people. Most of those who died were children seeking refuge in the air raid shelter ; many of them had come from Madrid because it was considered safer, as Madrid was on the front line of the Spanish Civil War.
