Stone, cool air, and time.

A cellar keeps its temperature naturally stable throughout the year. That consistency allows w**e to age slowly and gracefully.

Harvest has started at Oller del Mas.

For a few weeks the estate stops posing and starts working — fruit off the hill, the cellar running late, next year's w**e quietly beginning. It is the one stretch of the year the whole place is in motion, and it does not last long.

Did you know that Catalonia's patron saint is a Black Madonna?

The Virgin of Montserrat is known as La Moreneta — the little dark-skinned one.

A Romanesque wooden figure, allegedly darkened by age and centuries of candle smoke.

Do not miss the opportunity to walk up to her shrine and touch the orb. It is the one part of the statue you are allowed to reach.

A Benedictine monastery has sat in the rock since the Middle Ages, still lived in and still working.
