Here we are.
Yesterday was the first official event on cancer in AYAs (adolescents and young adults), the department Bruno was treated by, which our hospital started just two years before Bruno’s diagnosis, in 2022. His oncologists asked him to speak and since they are the best, Bruno was happy to oblige. He spoke naturally, comfortably. The whole point of the day was to highlight the needs of this age group, prove why they need their own department. When asked about getting a cancer diagnosis at his age, Bruno’s response was: “it’s the best possible age (sic). I got all the help I needed from home, yet I was old enough not to feel I grew up with cancer, it doesn’t define me.” When they asked him how he was doing he said great, super happy. The audience laughed.
Bruno wasn’t sure why.

This amazing human being, my son Bruno, is 21 years old today. In the past year, this is what has happened: a cancer diagnosis, 11 rounds of intensive chemo (with a severe bilateral pneumonia after #9), a major surgery in which his left hip bone and femur bones were replaced with a metal prosthesis. Nerve damage, lots of pain. Finally, a bone marrow transplant. And here he is, still smiling. He is/we are still on the long road to recovery, and this is why I have disappeared from this space. Resilience is an understatement. What kept his father and me going throughout this whole impossible year was Bruno’s incomparable fortitude, along with his amazing ability to make us laugh, even in the darkest of times. Bruno is more than strong, he is my hero. Happy birthday beloved boy. Bruno, I love you more.

Yesterday was this beautiful man’s birthday. As you know, we are going through a very difficult time (that’s an understatement) in our lives with Bruno’s health. i’m thankful to have a partner with whom we make a good team, to get us through these challenging times.
Happy birthday my love.

I am going to be quiet for a while here, focusing my energies on taking care of this beautiful human, my son Bruno. I wrote a bit more on my Substack if you would like to read it, the post is open to all. I will continue to teach my online classes, as nourishing food is my love language and will help us all pull through this. Please send all your healing vibes.
