🚨 AFTER NEARLY NINE YEARS… JODY SMART IS FINALLY BEHIND BARS 🚨
For almost nine years, hundreds of people on the Costa Blanca have been waiting for this moment.
Jody Smart — now legally known as Jody Pearson — has finally entered prison.
On 5 October 2026, after losing her appeals through the Spanish courts, Smart voluntarily handed herself in and entered Alicante Cumplimiento prison to begin serving her 3½-year sentence for fraud.
But please don't let the headline “3½ years” make you forget what lies behind it.
Because this story isn't just about one woman going to prison.
It is about ordinary people who trusted a financial company with the money they had spent their entire lives working for.
When Continental Wealth Management collapsed in 2017, around 1,000 predominantly British retirees were left facing the loss of some or all of their retirement savings. The total losses have been estimated at around €35 million.
And behind those numbers were real human beings.
People who had worked all their lives.
People who thought their pensions would give them security in their later years.
People who suddenly found themselves wondering how they were going to survive.
And there was Mark Davison.
Mark was one of the complainants in the case and had lost around €800,000. Tragically, he died before he ever saw Jody Smart convicted and sent to prison. He never got to see the justice that he had waited for.
His story is perhaps the most painful reminder that these figures on a balance sheet are not just numbers.
They are people's homes.
Their pensions.
Their futures.
Their peace of mind.
Their lives.
And while victims were dealing with the devastating consequences of losing their savings, Smart continued with a very different life — including running Oceana, the upmarket beach club and restaurant at Les Bassetes in Benissa, while posting pictures of holidays including Venice, Greece and Thailand.
That contrast is difficult to ignore.
Victims were left fighting for their futures.
She continued living hers.
One victim, Sally Anne Hodgson, was owed €70,000 after lending the money to CWM. Another victim, Tim Benjamin, lost €300,000 in a property transaction involving a Costa Blanca property that the court found did not exist. Smart was ordered to pay a combined €373,000 to those victims.
And let's be very clear:
Jody Smart has now been convicted.
Her conviction was upheld by the High Court of Valencia, and the Supreme Court subsequently declared her final appeal inadmissible. She is now serving the prison sentence imposed by the Alicante court.
But prison does not magically restore the years people have lost.
It does not put retirement savings back into bank accounts.
It does not give people back the security they thought they had.
And it certainly cannot bring back those who never lived long enough to see this day.
There are still people who have never recovered what they lost.
There are still unanswered questions surrounding the wider CWM collapse.
And there are still victims waiting for justice and, most importantly, their money.
So today, as we see the headline “Jody Smart finally behind bars”, let's remember the people behind the story.
Remember Mark.
Remember Tim.
Remember Sally.
Remember the hundreds upon hundreds of people who lost their life savings.
And remember that behind every pension pot was a human being who trusted someone with their future.
After nearly nine years, one chapter has finally reached its conclusion.
But the story of the CWM victims is NOT over.
