An enthusiastic Prolog traveller and his Impressions:
There is nothing like the wind blowing in your hair as the sun shines in Spain. Beautiful countryside surrounding driving along in the Morgan.
Shaped like a first world war fighter plane it’s piloting while still on the ground.
The twin Harley Davidson type S S 2 litre 82 horse power engine growls its way through the acceleration, top speed 185 km/h you will not need such grunt at 75 km/h it feels like 120km/h. This is a Morgan 3 wheeler and it’s fun.
Keeping the engine torqued is vital to performance the engine likes revolutions, 2500 settles the torque allowing great performance growls of contentment from the exhaust pipes which run parallel to the fuselage.
More a fuselage than a body, low slung 3.2m long and 1.738m wide the height of just a metre means you and your passenger are close to the ground.
Step in and slide down into the cockpit you feel a sense of time and respect this does not scream let’s do wheelies. No this is a sense of being part of an evolution of motoring. Oh, there is little room for excess luggage this is a streamlined vehicle.
The low seating arrangement is ‘a get used to’ moment the windscreen handles some wind resistance your head sits higher, exposed visibility is great. Strap yourself in get ready to do some real driving. The steering wheel is removal allowing choice of size.
The turning circle is larger than expected it means adjustment to approaching turns at junctions. There is a feeling of vulnerability, drama and adrenaline filled excitement as you take to the highway this following a two hour induction course including safety and rule of the road, and tutored test driving.
When the very patient Uli and his wife Gabriela are sure you are competent and ready to rumble and growl the beautiful bye ways and streets around Conil de la frontera in Andalusia your very individual journey starts.
This is not just motoring it has spirit of adventure as you cruise the quiet local roads and countryside, helming a Morgan is pure joy. Visiting villages and seeing the beauty of Andalusia with its sun flower covered fields, beaches and historic sites are all part of the ‘pro-log del sur ‘ driving holiday experience .
They have 5 Morgan’s and offer packages to suit most requirements, organise hotels and if you want to play golf while your other half drives or ride a beautiful Spanish horse it can all be arranged.
We stayed at the Conil Park hotel with half board it was excellent. The town is beautiful with quaint streets, good eating places and wonderful beaches.
Each morning the Morgan’s arrived to collect us then off we went, guests waved and showed great interest. Something you get used wherever you go you get attention this is no ordinary motoring experience we wave and hoot back, smile and smile again. The miles pass we laugh and absorb the moments.
We enjoyed 3 day trips each tailored to give a full taste of this beautiful area of Spain, up into the hills and down to the beaches, through quiet villages and down highways to Cadiz this was a holiday like no other. This was a journey in so many ways, Morgan’s are capable of making you see all around you differently, add in the warmth of Gabriela and Uli’s company this is as unique way to spend a few days in the sun.
Seville is the closest airport, we flew easyJet from Edinburgh. Pro-log will even pick you up.
