Calpe also has hidden coves like Cala del Racó and Cala Les Urques, where the water turns that unreal turquoise color.

And with over 300 days of sunshine a year… it’s easy to see why this place feels more like the Caribbean than mainland Europe.

Have you been there?

Alicante often gets treated as a gateway to the Costa Blanca, but historically it was one of the Mediterranean’s contested ports and that shows how many civilizations left fingerprints there.

Its defining landmark, Santa Bárbara Castle, sits on Mount Benacantil. The rock profile beneath it is called “The Moor’s Face” because from the beach side it looks like a human face.

The famous San Juan Beach, one of the longest and most popular beaches on the Costa Blanca stretching for about 7 km.

It’s known for having one of the best public hospitals in the region, the Hospital Universitario de Sant Joan d'Alacant, which serves a large part of the province.

Torrevieja used to be one of the largest salt producers in Europe, and salt extraction is still active today. You’ll even see mountains of salt near the city.

Unlike many historic Spanish towns, it’s relatively “new”—a massive 1829 Torrevieja earthquake destroyed most of the original settlement, so much of what you see today was rebuilt afterward.

It has one of the highest percentages of foreign residents in Spain, especially from Northern and Eastern Europe, which gives it a very international feel.

The colorful houses you see today are relatively modern (mostly 19th–20th century), but the town itself dates back over 2,500 years, with roots in ancient Iberian and Roman settlements.

It has a strong fishing heritage, especially for tuna, and still maintains an active fish market.
