Each spring, Seville transforms. Not for visitors, but for itself.

The Feria de Abril (April 21–26, 2026) is often seen as one of Spain’s most iconic celebrations, yet its origins are surprisingly modest. In 1847, it began as a livestock fair—a practical gathering for traders and farmers.

Within just a few years, something shifted. Small social tents—casetas—appeared, music followed, and what started as commerce evolved into a celebration of Andalusian identity.

Today, the fairgrounds come alive with over a thousand casetas, most of them private, where families and friends gather year after year. Days unfold with horse-drawn carriages and traditional dress; nights glow under thousands of lanterns, filled with music, dancing, and conversation.

It may draw global attention, but at its heart, the Feria still belongs to Seville. It’s not a performance—it’s a tradition, lived and passed on.

You’ve likely seen this structure while exploring Seville, rising unexpectedly above the historic center.

Locals call it Las Setas (“the mushrooms”), but its official name is the Metropol Parasol. Designed by architect Jürgen Mayer and completed in 2011, it has quickly become one of Seville’s most recognizable modern landmarks. A few details that make it remarkable:

It’s constructed from an intricate system of bonded timber panels, forming a sweeping, organic canopy.

It is considered one of the largest wooden structures in the world (actually, the second largest as of today)

Beneath it, you’ll find a lively square, a market, and even Roman archaeological remains.

But the real highlight? The elevated walkway. From the top, you get a completely different perspective of Seville: terracotta rooftops, church towers, and the rhythm of the city stretching in every direction.

If you’re visiting, don’t just admire it from below. Take the time to go up. The view is part of the experience!

A familiar silhouette from below, and an entirely different story from above.

The Metropol Parasol is one of those places that quietly reshapes how you see Seville—layer by layer, perspective by perspective.

Some moments are made to be observed. Others invite you to rise a little higher.

Have you spotted this symbol while wandering through Seville—on a bench, a façade, or even beneath your feet?

NO8DO… do you know what it means?

At first glance, it’s a mystery. But look closely: the “8” represents a madeja (a skein of wool), turning it into a visual riddle—No-madeja-do → “No me ha dejado” (“She has not abandoned me”).

According to tradition, Alfonso X the Wise granted this motto to the city in the 13th century, in gratitude for Seville’s loyalty during a time of conflict. Ever since, it has become the city’s enduring emblem—woven into everyday life, from street signs to historic buildings.

Some say it may go even deeper, possibly linked to the Latin nodo (knot), symbolizing unity and alliance.

Next time you see it, you’ll know—you’re looking at a quiet declaration of loyalty that has shaped the identity of Seville for centuries.

🍦 Europe’s Ice Cream of the Year has a Spanish Soul

Malaga-based master ice cream maker Juanma Guerrero has created “Melody”, a new flavor officially named Ice Cream of the Year in Europe as part of the European Artisan Gelato Day.

Inspired by Mediterranean flavors, “Melody” combines a creamy ricotta base, vibrant mandarin sauce, and crunchy pistachio, winning over the international jury thanks to its perfect balance, freshness, and originality.

The flavor was selected in the prestigious European competition organized by Artglace, where top gelato makers from across the continent compete each year around a shared theme — this time, “The ice cream that makes Europe sing.”

Even better, the recipe is already being shared with gelato shops across Spain and Europe, meaning you can experience this award-winning creation firsthand.

Once again, Malaga proves why it’s a rising star on Europe’s gastronomic map — and why artisanal ice cream is no longer just a summer treat.

Ready to taste Europe’s best scoop? Plan your trip to Spain and discover “Melody” where it truly belongs. 🇪🇸🍊

Walking through the ochre magic of the Genal Valley… and ending with roasted chestnuts straight from the forest. 🍁🔥. The economic and environmental value of chestnut cultivation in Andalucía is high: the chestnut tree combines forest/ecosystem value (soil protection, biodiversity, heritage landscapes) with economic/social value (nuts + rural economy + tourism).
