Key points in this Advanced Gybing video-

Prep-
Try it if you ride foils under 1000cm2 or sail in winds under 20 knots
Overhand grip.
Practice flipping ashore.

Entry-
Kill the power of the wing by-
Sailing full speed
Pulling in hard with back hand
Extend front arm

Wing flip-
Push down on back hand- so boom goes from horizontal to vertical
Pull front hand behind your head
Exit with overhand grip

This is the fastest wing start in the sport.

Suitable for all level of wingfoiler- beginner to expert, suitable for all board volumes and great for all ages.

Especially useful in the waves- because it’s SO fast.

Most wingers will already possess the skills to achieve this improved waterstart in a few attempts.

Tips-

To balance the board for lateral control (side-to-side) knees should be on centreline pointing forwards. The smaller the board, the more they need to point forwards.

To balance the board for longitudinal stability (stopping the nose from coming up) keep pressure on your front elbow.

Common mistakes-

Hard to grab back of boom? Probably taken too long- the board has now turned too far downwind

Catapulting/ rig rolling/ too much power? Turn board more upwind at the start/ look upwind.

Board too wobbly side to side? Bring knees together- especially moving your back knee further forwards so that it’s closer to front foot straps/ legs more parallel with centre line

Tail sinking/ nose of board going skyward? Keep your bodyweight on your front elbow for longer

Struggling to get your knees underneath you? Use your back hand to push the board lower/ push your body higher- this presents a gap to bring your knees under you. Moving your back hand further back helps.

Still too wobbly? Instead of lifting the wing, try pulling the wingtip down into the water- this creates an ‘out-rigger’ to balance, giving you more time to look upwind and get ready to stand up.

I’ve seen and tried every wing start out there and my method is the fastest and best.
