Highlights of the GR7 Walking Tour of the Alpujarras. This 6 day tour explores the famous white villages of Pampaneira, Soportújar, Cáñar and Lanjarón.

Always interesting, appealing, varied and relaxing! The contrasting scenery, rich heritage as well as the friendliness of the Alpujarran people makes this the ideal location for a walking holiday. Many of the villages have public drinking fountains where you can enjoy an ice-cold glass of mineral water or fill a bottle for later.

The region of La Alpujarra has an endless number of medieval trails and paths... Thousands of tourists travel through them throughout the year because they seek to discover the Alpujarra geography and be in the middle of the nature here. These routes, many taking old mule tracks that date back to the medieval period in the region. These are tracks with a lot of history! The medieval routes, zigzagging between the mountains, run through the numerous municipalities including that of Lanjarón, Órgiva, Taha de Pitres, Soportújar, Barranco de Poqueira, Busquístar, Trevélez, Bérchules, Pórtugos etc.... Most say that the most interesting way to discover La Alpujarra is on foot!

The river, gorges and refuges tour takes you through white villages such as Capileira, around the head of the dramatic Poqueira Gorge and up to a height of 2000m with an option to ascend to the Poqueira Hut at 2500m. The scenery is wild and mostly accompanied by the rushing waters of the river. .

Circular walk in La Taha del Pitres, part of our Alpujarras Escape walking holiday.

A series of whitewashed villages. Going down through Mecina Fondales and Fondales before we cross the Rio Trevelez and climb up steep zig zags to the ridge-line at the top. We then turn east which offers superlative views of the Sierra Nevada. A final steep descent passing smallholdings with various fruits on the trees brings us to the village of Busquístar.

Located in Ferrierola in the Alpujarras! Should be fun with writer/actor Nigel Planer teaching “Making it Funny”, a comedy writing workshop, 30 July – 6 August. With guest appearance by Sally Phillips (co-creator of “Drop the Dead Donkey” and played Shazza in Bridget Jones’ Diary)

Creative Writing at Casa Ana in La Alpujarra, led by experienced tutors. Guest writers have included Margaret Drabble and Chris Stewart.
