Are you familiar with the legend of San Borondón?
The island of San Borondón is a popular legend whose origins date back to the 2nd century.
If it were real, it would be located in the Canary archipelago, the ninth island, northwest of El Hierro and west of La Palma, about forty leagues from La Gomera.
San Borondón describes a "phantom" island that appears and disappears in the Atlantic, near the Canary Islands, sighted since the 6th century.
According to tradition, it was sighted by the Irish monk Saint Brendan and is characterized by lush vegetation, mountains, and beaches hidden by fog.
Currently, it is associated with optical phenomena (mirages or Fata Morgana) caused by changes in density between the air and the sea, but who knows...?
The island is part of Canarian popular culture and is imagined as a paradise.
